  • Release 1.14

    Hi,

Do u know when freeciv 1.14 will be released?

    Thanks!

Well, I know there's a 2nd beta for 1.14 coming out first. With luck we'll see the official release around january.

    fingers crossed...
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

I just uploaded beta2 to the ftp server. This is 99% likely to be the final code to be released. Hopefully 1.14.0 can be released shortly (a week or two).

Please test it out and report any bugs you find.

As most of you now know from www.freeciv.org there is a third beta, released for linux on 21 Dec 2002.

More recent news, Andreas Kemnade's windows port of Freeciv 1.14.0-beta3 is now available (without sounds).

I've just downloaded it now... and its an installation EXE file rather than a ZIP file as before.

          Has anyone tried it yet?

I did, compared to 1.13 the menu interface has been cleaned up a bit. Options and menu boxes now pop up larger which makes things easier to comprehend instead of resizing a window or scrolling through the text.

Anything else? Not much that hasn't appeared in earlier dev versions. There's a handy worklist editor where you can create different worklists. Nice touch is that you now can load a different tileset from within the client. The msg output selection has now been organized into three tabs: one for cities, enemies and units. In earlier releases the msg output list tended to go beyond the screen.
