  • Using world map

Hey guys. I'm trying to get the world map into Freeciv. ave moved no files around and here is my shortcut string....

    C:\desktop\freeciv\freeciv-1.13.0\civserver.exe" -f earth-160x90-v2.sav

What am i doing wrong?? The server pops up and then closes immediately.

If you look at the output to the console you see

    ./ser -f data/scenario/earth-160x90-v2.sav
This is the server for Freeciv version 1.14.1-devel
You can learn a lot about Freeciv at http://www.freeciv.org/
    Loading saved game: data/scenario/earth-160x90-v2.sav...
0: Savegame too old, at least version 1.9.0 required.

So I guess the earth scenario shipped is simply not up to date.

Yes. Perhaps you could get it to work by loading it into and old version of civworld (the one for 1.12.0 should work) and then saving it again. I know 1.12.0 would load it, and it would then be saved in 1.12.0 format.

The savefile is actually fine. It is just the version number which is outdated. Edit the file and replace the version string with

                  version=10900

and it will work fine. Thanks for finding this, it will be fixed in next version.

The client cannot load maps, only the server can. However, the windows client is capable of launching a server with a map. Other users should be able to connect to you at your IP address to join this game.

                        Per,
But whenever i try to use it with a server it doesn't work. The server starts then clses after 1/100th of a second (roughly) and a litle bit of text pops up.
                        Any help now?

Try running the server from the command prompt (ie run "command"), then you'll see what the server says.

is the world map the same as the one from civ2? or has it been altered? or is it a completely new concoction

FreeCiv's maps are proper rectangles rotated by pi/4 radians.
