Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

Simple DirectMedia Layer is a cross-platform multimedia library designed to provide fast access to the graphics framebuffer and audio device. It is used by MPEG playback software, emulators, and many popular games, including the award winning Linux port of "Civilization: Call To Power." Simple DirectMedia Layer supports Linux, Win32, BeOS, MacOS, Solaris, IRIX, and FreeBSD.

SDL is written in C, but works with C++ natively, and has bindings to several other languages, including Ada, Eiffel, ML, Perl, PHP, Python, and Ruby.
You can find a number of games written in SDL at:

        1. The interface looks too GUI-heavy.

        2. Can this be run in windowed mode?

                Every language to be exact.

Freeciv is multilangual (English, German, French, Japanese, Hungarian, Italian etc..) thanks to internationalization (i18n). It will detect and switch to your native language depending on the settings of your computer. The city screen shown above would appear in English on your PC.

Well, going by the currency listed on the city screen, Zloto, my guess would be..... Polish?

Are you saying that the english build refers to zloto as pounds sterling?

The screenshots look great - will this be available on both Windows and unixes?

Any idea on a date for the first beta releases?

Also, are there any links/docs to this on the main www.freeciv.org site?

                        Keep up this good work!
