  • freeciv mod development (academic)

A friend and I are working on a WWII mod of freeciv for a game design class. We were working through the rulesets and when we tried to run it, the computer complained about only having 8 buildings. We have only modified .ruleset files and tried running with only one user in the game (no AI was being used).

If you could help us (and fast too) we would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    A few questions...

What version (1.12 or 1.13 Beta) are you using?
Did the server report an error when you tried to load this ruleset?
Did it crash or just report an incompatible ruleset?
Could you post the ruleset here?

Posting this message in the Freeciv mailing list (freeciv or freeciv-data@freeciv.org) might also help.

Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

The number of buildings and their effects are currently hardcoded and cannot be changed. We will be changing this in the release after 1.13.0

      Sorry

        Thanks for your responses.

I was given the idea to make dummy buildings (tech req = "Never" i think). Since I'm only designing an alpha for my class, this should be enough, atleast for now.

I'll look at things in 1.13 when that version is released, but as this assignment is due in two days, I'll have to work with what I got.

        Thanks,

I almost forgot, it's sad I gave such a poor description of the error message.

Ok I don't have it infront of me (I'm at work), but when I would have ./ser running in a terminal and freeciv in it's window, I would type 'start' to start the game and that's when the error message comes up. The client looses it's connection. The error message in the terminal complains about the number of buildings.

          Thanks,
