What is your long-term objective in supporting the CivII graphics format? You will have to add some support (supplementary to Freeciv format, perhaps) for the CivII text files (rules.txt, city.txt, events.txt) if you want to directly load CivII modpacks and scenarios.

Long term objective? that my kid brother not say "this sucks" when he ses the freeciv graphics .

I have no plans to add civ 2 scenaro support, but if someone want to do it they can.
But remember that the freeciv map is still numberred as the overhead view, and so incompatible with civ2 maps.

ps: did you try freeciv yet?

Yeah, I have it installed under Win95 and Caldera's OpenLinux (I don't use it since it doesn't recognize my modem). Honestly, nowadays I play standard CivII games without trying to win and doing that in a game that does not support diplomacy yet is more or less impossible.

I very much doubt that Freeciv will be file format compatible with Civ2. Therefore, direct download of Civ2 modpacks and scenarios probably won't be supported, even in the long term.
