  • Contact with AI-players

I've been seriously playing FreeCiv for a while now. Once you get past the user interface and the Civ1 style graphics you'll find it's a good game with some decent AI. One nag however, for some reason I can't contact the AI players. I can establish an embassy (hit F3 and click on the civ to see what they've got) and steal techs from them of course. But I can't trade techs, make peace, declare war, demand tribute etc...

In the helpfile I've read that you can trade techs and cities with human players. Isn't there some sort of diplomacy screen for the AI civs?

    I want my tribute!!!

Umm, no, not programmed yet. Patches accepted . If you want to work on it you should put it on top of the pacts patch, which should hopefully get applied to CVS soon.
Maybe I'll try to implement this soon myself.

Unfortunately my programming experience is limited to pascal, meaning that I'm a little over my league in that department. It's a nice job for any budding programmer though: build an effective diplomacy screen for the AI-players. My best wishes to the one who pulls it off

      And I still demand tribute!!!

At least your senate doesn't give you crap on breaking treaties!

Heh. Maybe I should implement the senate tomorrow just to annoy Kumiorava

Oh you mean like your fog-o'-war didn't spoil all the fun yet?

For the moment, the only thing you can get from the AI-players is war.

AI is probably one of the most difficult part to program, if not the most difficult. Not surprisingly, it is also the least understood part of the code, which is made worse by the cryptic comments. I think some major clean up will be needed pretty soon.
