Hello. I know this question sounds really... silly but how do you apply a patch?
    i.e. patch 1.14.1 to freeciv 1.14.0.

Applying a Freeciv ´patch´ doesn´t work the work in the way you´re used to in windows. Those are really updates for binaries (e.a compiled files). A patch is just a piece code that you can add to the freeciv source, compile and run the resulting binary. How to compile sourcecode is worth another discussion but there are far better sites, forums and mailing lists to ask that question.

Compiling can be a bit daunting at the start and even more under windows. The Freeciv site does offer daily CVS builds for the windows version now. Much easier!
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.
