  • Introducing myself

Hi everyone in the Clash community !

After reading about Clash and tried the last version of the game, I would really like to join you in making Clash the greatest Free "Civilization" game public available.

For a long time I have been a fan of the "civ" series, and enjoyed playing a number of Civlike games. At the same time I have been aware that there existed some types "non commercial" civs, like Clash of Civilizations and FreeCiv.

I downloading the latest version. And I must say I'm impressed with what you guys have accomplished. I really think you have something going here

I also noticed you need an Graphic artist to shape the game up visually, and I might be the man for the job if you let me
I have talked to Mark, and his response was positive. Although he wants me to "get into" the project before making any real decisions about my part of the project. There has probably been tons of enthusiastic people saying they wanted to join and didn't contribute with any work after all.

As for my potential role in this project, I think a complete rework of all or most of the graphics are in order. I think my
main effort would be put there, since I really suck at java programming and such (although I know the basics). I will spend
the next week or so to get deeper into Clash, especially your ideas for the game and how you want it to become.

    That's it for now...

    Hey Stian:

As you said, the graphics definitely need work. I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do! But rather than redoing everything, I think the proper focus is to put in new stuff that meets your idea of where the graphics should evolve rather than redoing things that are already basically functional. So, as I said in the other thread things like roads, rivers and coastlines, which we really don't have yet (there is a very simple version of roads) are at the top of my list for things to do. Adding new units the game engine requires would also be good. Redoing existing graphics seems like the thing to do only when everything big in the game is shown in at least Some way .

One thing I have to mention is that you said Clash is free, and non-commercial, and I don't want you to have a misapprehension. If it turns out as great as we think it will, we would like to make it shareware in the somewhat distant future. But the details are TBD since the most important thing is to make it a Game first .

Speak for yourself. I've always been in favor of a completely open source/freeware program.

And welcome to the project, sas. A good artist would be a big help. If you have some time to spare, could you look at the icon-based display ideas on following pages and tell us what you think? They don't look pretty, but I think they display the relevant unit information pretty well:

            A quick question, please...

Forgive me for hijacking this gentleman's thread, but I didn't want to hijack the entire forum for the sake of my one question. At this point, I have just learned about your project and am reading through all the documentation I can find here and at the website.

I must say simply WOW! This project is a monumental achievement on so many levels. I'm most eager to figure out how I can help.

The question I have at the moment concerns government. Reading the website, I see that there appears to be enough flexibility in your model to construct a libertarian government which is exciting to me (for obvious reasons ).

Libertarianism is nothing more than opposition to the INITIATION of force. So, I see from the documentation that I can model a government that emphasizes personal liberty and private property as well as aggression in the "international arena".

In order to model a libertarian government, however, it will be necessary to differentiate between initial force and responsive force. In other words, libertarians never start a fight for no good reason, but if we are attacked, we will not hesitate to unleash sufficient force to respond and retaliate.

            So...

The question is, will the model allow for this? And if not, can it be ammended?

That's it for now. I'll go back to finishing the documentation and downloading the demo.

            THANK YOU for doing this!!!

Hi Libertarian, glad you stoped by, I think that's our first "WOW"

I suspect the govt model will support your desires as-is. Best to put your point in the Govt Model V3.1 thread to be sure Rodrigo sees it. That thread is about 10 posts down from the top right now.

Looking forward to hearing your comments, and figuring out how you can help too .

Posting an inviation on the CIV 3 board was sure to attract us bar flies..

Like LIB I followed the thread here from the CIV 3 board..its got me excited not just the game but this concept of inviting real players to test your demos..brave stuff.

I am one of a team helping to admister 4 fan boards for the 3DO Might and Magic series (6, 7, 8 and the waited for 9). We call our boards "taverns" hence bar flies...
We are bored with the wait for MM9 so I have posted the link here to recruit some more opinions and advice.
Our tavern members include some very experienced players.
If you want to add any comments to the invite here is the link..
                good luck
