Here's the most recent Clash blurb for the mag:

The people you rule in "The Clash of Civilizations" won't be like putty in your hands, unless you usually leave live hand grenades in your putty... The government model in Clash gives you, the player, a whole new set of internal enemies to test yourself against. If you squeeze the poor too long, while leaving the rich alone, you'll probably get that revolution you've justly earned. New ideologies like Democracy and Communism will sweep the globe, and can quickly change your people's support for your government. Sometimes you'll need to share power with a senate, or a military junta, and they will get a say in how you set the tax rate, level of civil rights, and other critical aspects of your government. And of course you can play dirty too, bribing opponents or closing the senate. For more details, check out the government model at our web site!

Here's whats going in Issue 4:

In many Civ-games, there are special units such as the Spy in Civilization II which are used to conduct diplomacy, but in the Clash of Civilizations, we are deepening this aspect vastly by creating a "Foreign Office" and an "Interior Ministry" to deal with this in a more realistic sense. Events such as propaganda and counterintelligence (feeding false information, for example) are just some of the many new features, all of which shall be controlled by budgetary expenditure, that is to say that increasing the amount of money that they receive will increase the effectiveness of these governmental departments. The main aspect of diplomacy, however, is state relationships. In real life, treaties do not last forever and often include clauses (such as demilitarisation of particular areas), so implementing these in Clash would allow realistic situations such as Germany ceding its colonies when it signed the peace treaty to end World War I.

        Hey Chris:

This idea was suggested by Mikel in the Forum Guestbook (quoted below). What do you think of putting all the SP articles in order at the top of this thread? (or alternatively post them as a web page at the site) That way we can have a central place we can refer to for people who don't want to do a lot of exploration of the web site. Whatcha' think? (Provided its ok copywrite-wise)

(snip) I also noticed elsewhere that the Thread conveners may be writing monthly updates to be included as part of a magazine column. I think if this is being done then newbies and lurkers like me should be pointed to it because there is a lot of material to read through and I'm sure much of it is now no longer relevantGood Luck with the project and i'll get back to you with answers soon.

This is the next blurb for Strategy Player. I have taken over the duties from Chris since he retired. Thanks to Mark Silcox for his contribution!

In "Clash of Civilizations" you won't have to rule a bunch of morons that require your frequent intervention just to avoid starvation! The people will be able to fend for themselves pretty well, thank you. And there will be merchants with a profit motive that'll incidentally bring to each area the specialty goods like steel, or wine that the economy really needs to take off! So, in a Clash economy you, the player, won't have to micromanage to get what you want. Our goal is to allow you to change from peacetime to war footing in something like 10 mouse clicks. If you ARE inclined to fine-tune things, however, you can get down to a frighteningly precise level of detail. To learn how we are going to do all this, check out http://clash.apolyton.net/frame/ and follow the link to "Economy". The days of the morons are numbered!

Much of this is coded or partly coded already, what am I over-promising?

                  I think Mark's okay.

We'll have something for people to hands-on play with sooner than you might think.
