    Here's the reason i want to add a "bit of randomness".

    First off just because u gain a specific level doesn't mean u have an "sudden development" in that technology. This isn't at all historically accurate and if we did it this way we wouldn't be able to incorpeate such things as how navigation is developed. Navigation would require a certain % of astronomy. It would be helped out by a certain level of electromagnetics (assuming u have developed the compass). Here's the prob though with the system w/o randomness of a little bit: Navigation requires certain level of Water Transportation OR a certain level of land tansportation, but not both. Without this the model can't work right and it shouldn't be forced that a player has to have both cuz they may be landlocked or a nation made of many small islands.

    Also it wouldn't be totally random, but based also on the levels of the current applicable technology.

    There are other reasons, such as losing tech if it goes below min prereq, but I don't feel like going into specifics.

    PS. I know this belongs in the tech forum, I just think i need to make myself clear hear as to what "randomness" means.

      Pleeeze just post the model as is, and then you will get feedback from people on the issue(s). IMO its much more important to see if the general framework passes muster than solve every issue involving the model before presenting it. Plus, all the other models interact with Tech... We Need to see it to start hooking up the interactions now. If necessary just present it as: "There are two ways we could do this, the two options we're considering are..."
