first, i want to ask, how will this all fall into place with map-generation? like how are hot-spot designated regions marked on a newly-generated map?

second, i want to say that i'm totally in the dark when it comes to java, so that's probably why the demo won't work for me either.

Sorry, I may not get your question. As asked, the answer is that you run the algorithm on the new map . Then you can use it for the strategic thoughts cited at the top of the MapAI page.

You don't need to know Anything about java in principle, just follow directions. In your case with WinXP it may be there just isn't java plugin support (which is what handles the run-from-desktop functionalit). Since I don't know anything about XP and have no way to test, we're screwed for now unless we can figure a way to see the error message.

I'm not sure of a good way to create regions based on the algorithm's results, but it probably wouldn't be too hard. Just clump together squares with similar results.

Actually, throughout this thread I've mostly been envisioning regions created arbitrarily, helpful in accelerating path-finding only because they simplify the task. Similarly I'm pretty sure the Clash algorithm will work without any regions.
