    Hey dexter:

I tried it but got an error. Maybe I'm not up to date on directX?

It said (and why M$ didn't make Error dialogs so you can copy the text straight from them I'll never know)

The CIVILIZA_D4.EXE file is linked to missing export DDRAW.DLL: DirectDrawCreateEx (and there it stops, more M$ stupidity).

I tried it with D4B and got the same error.

So is there a place I can download the latest version of DirectX?

sounds like you've already solved the problem

You can download the latest version of DirectX here:

        Mark:
Are you on NT or Win2K? I used to get that error after compiling as "Release" configuration on those OS's. I had to compile as "Debug" configuration before it would work.

Hey Dale, thanks for the thought, but I'm just on ol' Win98. I'll try the download next time I'm useless

dale if you're right about NT/2000 then people with those OS's are out of luck if they want to play civiliza. there are no "debug" builds anymore, everything is strictly "release".

i haven't got a chance to test civiliza on NT/2000 systems, so this kind of info would be useful.
