  • A quest to create the most complex multiplayer civilization-like game imaginable

Hi, we are starting a Civi-like game project (the "Aceituna" project)

We are planning on using Sun's Darkstar Massive Multiplayer Game Platform and we would receive any one who wishes to collaborate with open arms.

The basic goal of The Aceituna project is to create a massive multiplayer strategy game in the style of Sid "God" Meier's Civilization, but adding far more detail and complexity, thus creating a "living" world for the players to inhabit .

The players will be able to manage troops and cities as in civilization, but also buy, transport and sell goods (like in Machiavelli the prince or Merchant Prince) or build factories and mines to produce the goods. or all at once or in any combination they like.

The game will not limit the player's choice in that regard, for example a player could decide to manage troops but no cities and be a mercenary captain, another could use only spy units and sell information to other players, another could use transport units to be a transport tycoon, or have a few cities and a vast merchantile network like the renaissance princes of italy.

PS: in the next few days i'll be translating (from the original Klingon^H^H^H^ spanish) and reformatting our design doc and prolly will post it here.

Just posting to bump up the thread and to make an update on the project's progress.

Our main site is now here

We have a working prototype with only a (extremely small) subset of the game's functionality. It allows developers to see the general communications framework and design of the game.

Also we have a roadmap for the first development cycle at http://svchb.net:12004/projects/roadmap/aceituna.

We are still looking for more developers and graphic designers to help us with the project. If you are interested please send me a PM, or use our Google Group at http://groups.google.com/group/aceituna-project.

      Thanks.

      Frodo.
