  • Coders of Apolyton Unite!

Why don't those among you with skills join the Clash project... it's made the most progress of all these, and is arguably more interesting...?

I would not say its made the most progress. Its extremely slow. And unplayable becourse of that. If it gets a optimized interface and gets fun to play, I might play it. Developing for a game I can do if I like the game.

well, if you mean the style of the game? - i hate those "c & c" type games like AOE and the countless others... so it's horses for courses innit. If not, yes I take it back, compared to Dale's "Empire" it's got a little way further to go, but I think it'll make dramatic progress over the coming months when the new gfx are included and the models more developed.
I've already made preliminary designs for a new interface (check my sig link).
Anyway, check out demo 8 in the summer, or add some constructive suggestions to the Clash forum if you think there's something that can be done to make the game appeal to you more.
At the end of the day, when push comes to shove, in the final analysis, when all said and done, in summary, the long and the short of it is, when all's said and done, rounding up, and without any further a-do or beating around the bush, in conclusion and to get to the point without dilly, dally, or delay, and not to put too fine a point on it, it's just an engine that can be dressed up in any way you like.

It's indeed slow and incomplete. However, it's incomplete because it encompasses more than most other games developped here. And it's slow because noone bothered to tune the performances as long as half the features aren't there.
As for it being unplayable because of speed, there haven't been many people saying this on the thread about D7 comments. If it puts people off, they should tell us so we know that it's really important to fix. It'd be a pity to fix things while most people are put off from the beginning.

Well, when I get some code experience with Java I might offer to create a faster interface. All it needs is some smart buffering.
