Excellent beginning! I really like the child focus of the tale, and am looking forward to more!

Great Start! So now we have TWO terrific new serials starting! And, do I detect a bit of foreshadowing? It sounds like Lady D and Morgan have a bit of history!

Quite a nice beginning you have there! It's great to see another story pop up in the "Spartan Chronicles thread." (No offence to you guys, of course. Love your work!)

I'll give me something to read while I'm dreaming up things for my own little epic. I can't wait to see the next episode!

        Thanks for the encouragement.

I've wanted for some time to start a game, and just play a couple of turns, then write in some depth about these early days, then play another couple, etc.

In most of what I've read posted in this and the other fiction sites it's almost as if the authors can't wait to get to the military action (no offense authors )

Vel's Episodes was one that inspired me, as he'd based it on an earlier much short action oriented story, then expanded it to give much greater character definition.

If I come close to that - and keep the reader interested, I'll be happy

Oooohh... I know that "military action" thing was at least partially directed my way! I need some sort of defense in my name here.

Ok. That wasn't my origional plan. In THEORY, I would have had all 8 (Yes I did say 8!) factions intertwined by now, but my other writers have refused to do their parts and I'm just finally getting some stuff from them now.

I needed to put something in there to continue to plot and develop the tense relationship between my Jasonian and PLR factions.

          Things will be changing soon...

                Korn,

Yeah you're probably right. But the Spartans IS THE military faction of Planet, so having battle in that story is very acceptable.

Maybe it's just my guilt for rushing my plot ahead too fast... ah well.

                      Jason,

I wasn't pointing fingers at anyone in particular - more at a genre.

A lot of the fiction around the battles etc is great - and the game lends itself to that very much.

I was just looking for a different angle - the mindworm's been done, the Spartan Chronicles are great, just oozing with imagination and action, but I thought that Planet from a kid's perspective would be neat.

I'm sure I'll be describing some military action and battles as I play out the game (still saved at 2102, can you believe), but probably not as well as you guys can. It'd be different from a kid's perspective anyway.

                        Gayle,

Yeah... you're right about that. I was in a horrid mood when I wrote that and feel bad about it now...

Your opening is great, and the next two parts follow along wonderfully. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to these new Gaian kids.

Maybe I'm just upset that your story is almost as long as mine in three chapters and has a lot more to do with the people. That's what I tried to do when I started this. But it appears that things have gotten awry in the time when I didn't have episodes from my other writers..

                        My appologies,

You know what would be awesome - if these story lines were turned into scenarios where the interludes corresponded to the plot, something as decent as the actual storyline.

I'm not sure if I get your drift, Tree, but I intend to let the game "write" the story for me.

I've only taken two turns, got a rover from a pod and sent it towards a monolith but decided that I should explore elsewhere.

I've moved my second colony pod 2 squares, but have stalled the game until the story cayches up (have still to get the second pod going in the story line)

Right now, there are of course an infinite number of futures. I guess once I'm at turn 50 or 100, or so, a saved game file would still have multiple futures, but would have a strong history (eg why am I at war with Morgan, why did I pact with Lal, etc.)

Was that what you had in mind - a scenario with some history to it?

                            Gayle

ps - I've had another idea - start another game as the Gaians, and have the same characters, in a parallel universe- what happens to them - naw, too complicated - just a thought

                              Gayle,

I continue to be impressed by your story line. In particular, I enjoyed Deirdre’s speech. It stuck me as rational, real and wholly in character with how I view the Gaian faction (which I am philosophically aligned with). This contrasts strongly with the one-dimensional characterization of the SMAC comic that was released – that story line struck me as wrong and a poor stereotype of the Gaians. The comic Gaians seemed to be, frankly, rather stupid. Yours seemed intelligent, with the intent of husbanding and tending to Planet and, as you said, thanking her for her gifts.

Each of the authors that have delved into AC has brought their own gifts that enrich the SMAC story – I appreciate them all.

                              Keep up the good work!
