    ~Alpha Cold War Events Oct 17 - 23

~The German's have fought off the advancing Spanish and
    liberated Frankfort.

~The U.S. announced they will lift all economic sanctions
against Spain if they sign a peace treaty with the Germans.

~Germany has asked for U.S. intervention against Spain
but the U.S. announced a state of neutrality.

~England has sent Germany 3 needlejets and 5 artillery
batteries, to slow the Spanish advance.

~The Soviet Union is still at war with Italy. The Soviets
have threatened to use nuclear weapons against the
Italians. After a massive air campaign, the Soviet's forced
the Italian rebels out of Moscow and recaptured their
    capital.

~The Soviet's would not allow U.S. probe inspectors to
search Soviet facilities for the manufacturing and
production of chemical weapons. The international
community suspects the Soviet Union is manufacturing
needlejets, copters, and even warheads capable of
delivering a chemical weapon attack. U.S. inspectors
say chemical weapons could pose a greater threat
to worldwide security the nuclear weapons.

    ~Q & A. Reader fox_444_x@yahoo.com asks;
"How is this scenario similar to the real cold war?"

Actually it is very similar. Both the U.S. and Soviets started
with about 5 nuclear missiles. So immediately, both countries
started a massive arms buildup. Once each country had over
40 missiles, it became ridiculous. They could each easily
destroy the whole world. So, they started negotiating nuclear
arms limits. They got down to a limit of 20 nuclear arms,
which is the limit now. Soon, the negotiated a new treaty to
allow the deployment of 8 orbital defense pods (or national
missile defense...otherwise known as "star wars"). It takes
1 defense pod to shoot down each nuclear missile launched.
So, either nation could still successfully launch 12 missiles
at the other nation and cause great, great, harm but not
totally destroy the nation. What helps prevent this currently?
Since neither nation can totally destroy the other, hopefully
no one will initiate an attack for the fear of retaliation. But,
recently China has developed nuclear capabilities and the
U.S. fears they could initiate an attack and ignore the threat
of retaliation. And with chemical weapons on the rise, which
there is no defense for, national security has never been more
    important.
