On the current game I'm playing, I play Lal and was peacefully growing my cities when Santiago conquered Gaians, Hive and UoP successively. This is shocking news as I don't even know where the Spartans are.(I play huge map and only has Miriam as neighbour) I am 3rd in the powergraph. Miriam is 2nd and doesn't have any tech for me to steal. Therefore, I sneak attacked and eliminated them with my airpower and worms. I discovered the Spartans were far away on another continent and they declared vendetta. I managed to sneak some probes to steal a few techs but beyond that, I do not have the resources for a full scale amphibious assault. I built Empath Guild and summon planetary council. Just for fun, I clicked on "Vote me for Supreme Leader". Santiago voted 'nay' of course, 150+ votes and Morgan voted 'nay', 30+ votes. I voted for myself with 500+ votes and WON! It was too easy a win and not fun at all. So I reloaded and tried for Ascent. Only 50+ years left and I am nowhere near Ascent. I conquered Morgan (he refused to surrender maybe due to Green economics and treacherous integrity) and Spartans don't have any new tech for me.

It's a good thing you posted, the entire forum was about to go under from the 10-day thing.I'm consitently stupid- Japher

Well I would if I had had any. Unfortunately, for the last couple of months the real world has taken up almost all my free time. Would you believe I didn't complete a game of SMAC until two days ago? And I have yet to play CTP! Here's my current story...
I am the Gaians, thinker level, and I started in a relatively uninspiring area. Some unity pods gave me rivers & 2 monoliths near my capital, which was useful. I expanded slowly at 1st concentrating on 3 SP's: Weather Paradigm, Merchant X, and Genome. Peacekeepers got Genome, I got other 2 plus empath guild. Made contact with Lal, very friendly; can't say the same for Miriam, who attacked my capital twice and almost took it the 2nd time. Fortunately, she(& Lal) were not on my continent. Got the message Morgan was killed by the Hive; he also built the command nexus. Later I find out Yang is pounding on the University and captures the hunter-seeker algorithm! Checking the power graph, it's me & Miriam neck & neck for 2nd place, but Yang is WAY ahead of both of us(gulp!). I'm down south, and I know Yang is up north, I figure better scout up north ASAP! Good news: not only is Yang not on my continent(I'm alone!) but at the very top of the continent is the monsoon jungle, and it's huge!! I quickly change the direction of my colony pods and send them up north, 2 pods with 2 formers escorted by captured mindworms thru the thick fungus wall between me and my goal. It becomes a war with me, Lal, and UoP allied on one side(the good guys, naturally ) & Yang, Miriam, and Santiago on the other, although they are not allied until later. With the Guild I become governor, I can see enemy city production & I launch a satellite. Whenever my enemies start building a planet buster I send a small assault force to take the city. Finally conquer Santiago, then trounce Miriam after some bitter fighting. Yang has been impossible but I have finally exhausted his supply of missiles, for awhile we were trading his cities back and forth. When I didn't have hunter-seeker captured he used the opportunity to steal a ton of tech. Now it's endgame; I won by electing myself ruler of the planet, then reloaded-I want to see what each victory is like! Now I am building my cities mostly, trying to prevent eco-damage while working on Ascent & orbitally inserting blink-stasis tanks on Yang. Uop has but 3 sea colonies left; Lal is trying to expand. Just for fun I repealed the UN charter and let Yang have it with a singularity planet buster I've been saving...it seems like forever since he last spoke to me...I'm consitently stupid- Japher
