INTRODUCTION

This is the information thread for the cooperative story called World of Chiron, based on Sid Meiur's Alpha Centauri game, along with its expansion Alien Crossfire.

If your interested to join the co-op story, please read this thread and state your interest in the Word of Chiron - Discussion thread.

Settings

(keep in mind that this may be added upon)

- Story begins on year 2250

- The Official stories like Journey to Centauri is considered canon, while that of Alien Crossfire, the novels and etc will be used to help authors define their factions, use certaint techs, and etc...same goes for the cynamics, tech blurbs and etc.

- average population size per faction is between 200k to 500k. populations grows about 2% to 5% per year. generally, population sizes will be kept abstract for story simplification.

- general planetary tech would be at level 6, with Orbital Spaceflight being a recent tech, fusion power being around for 5+ years, magtubes being around for 10+ years, and Mind/Machine Interface being for 5+ year (cyborgs basicly had this tech the beginning, considering they have MMI implants with AIs).

- impact (rail/gauss, projectile) weaponry is the most common and basic weapons on planet, while most common current military grade weapons are Chaos (disruptors, bolt energy) and Missiles (indirect projectiles of various types).

- silksteel is the most commonly used type of armor, while plasma and synth steels is still used in some areas, mainly by lower teched factions.

- while now gradually, and quickly with some factions, being replaced by fusion, fission is still mostly used at the moment.

- average faction been using Cruisers for the last 50+ years and Needlejets for the last 20+ years.

- as for standard unit sizes...

100-1000 per Infantry Unit

12-15 per Rover/Crawler/HoverTank/etc Unit

12-15 per Needlejet/Chopper/Gravship/etc Unit

1 per Frigate/Destroyer/Cruiser/Battleship/Carrier/Submarine/etc Unit (those units are base on the Doctrine: Initiative tech)

1-5 per Naval Transport Unit

1-5 per Foil Unit

- Planetary Council as been established for like 50+ years now, and mainly just the faction leaders having their council in a virtual world council room thing. UN Charter is 'enforced', and present planetary governor is Lal for now, until someone calls for an election in the council in the story.

- basicly, a new era age in Chiron history is beginning, with a planetary economy really starting to form, and sense of 'globalism'. a long with the beginning of a new age, the aliens (Proginators) is becoming more and more of a threat to humanity on Chiron.

GUIDELINES

(the guidelines will be updated and revised as the story goes on)

New Authors:

If any new writers would like to join, they should introduce themselves into the discussion thread. Then they would need to describe what faction they choose, then bases, units, etc. within reason.

Then the new author should inform the other authors of any planned friendships, alliances, or war treaties. That way, the relationships of the new faction author would be clear and understood.

Upon a clear definition and understanding of the new author's chosen faction, relationship treaties, and starting postions, the author shall be free to write his / her first story post.


Retiring / Inactive authors:

If an author wishes to retire due to real life issues, or feels he / she cannot carry on with the story, the author shall inform the story community in the discussion thread.

Upon retiring, the author's faction will become neutral. The exception to this rule is when other authors have ongoing story arcs or plot-lines involving the retired author's faction. The authors with the ongoing story plot-lines are to be allowed to finish the story arc, by writing the point of view from the retired author's faction, within reason.

In cases of a war based story arc, the story arc is to be reviewed by the whole author community, to avoid what is termed as "god-modding" or in other words, "invincibility" or "faction conquers the enemy faction without losses".

As for inactive authors, if any author is unable to post in the discussion thread for a month or more, the author community needs to try to Private Message the author in question, to ask the reason for the inactivity. If no response is made within a week, discussion should be undertaken regarding the future of the author's participation, as well as his / her current faction in the story.


Time Progression:

Time progression in the story would be that an author can go more than 1 story month than the latest dated story post, while they cannot go more than 3 story months before the latests dated post. so, it would be really encouraged that authors post the story date of when their story post happens in the story.

The Latest Dated story post is the dated posted in a story post written by someone other than yourself. If no other authors as posted for 48 hours since you posted, you may make another story post, using your last dated post as the Latest Dated, hence at the maximun of one month after.
