This H2H game between t_ras and I, starting in early 2007 ended finally in August 2009.
CMD Darsnan set one hell of a challenge. The AI were supercharged, so getting to confront t_ras involved a lot of conqering and diplomacy. The AI were: Miriam, Roz, the Pirates, the Uni, and the Drones.
Over the period I successfully challenged Miriam (reducing her status to ally) then despite persistent attacks from Roz, I successfully attacked and stole base DataCentral, which came bundled with some useful projects.
But all of the AI were stealing techs like mad.
Reducing the influence and power of (neighbouring ) Roz was a crucial play. And that occupied a lot of time and effort.
But these AI were still very dangerous civs and my newly conquered bases were short of defences. Also it took ages to get attacking and defending units into play.
The intervening game years were spent acquiring the techs but Uni/ Roz had the Planetary Datalinks and knowing that fact, we proceeded with caution.
As in all games, getting the Cloudbase Academy (CA) was a crucial and important project.
Steadily and slowly I eliminated the AI, the PSA was particulary annoying.
The point being, I was spending vast amounts of time and effort against a re-inforced AI and countered spy attacks. And the AI was keeping pace tech wise.
So that I was just 1 or 2 techs ahead of the AI. Eventually I defeated the AI because I conquered the PSA. But as expected, Pirates, Uni and Domai put up a hell of a fight.
Eventually I got to confront t_ras.
