I will be away this weekend, hopefully getting engaged. Hence, I won't be playing any turns. Sorry for the delay.

            2112 to University.

Well, we finally finished researching that worthless technology that had inexplicably captured the attention of our reseachers, and are now researching Planetary Networks. Our researchers predict completion in 12 years.

The good news: the beloved Planned Society is now visible on the horizon.

The bad news: as feared, our citizens must suffer over another decade of waiting.

Our productive citizens have managed to create their first colony pod, and have targeted a location near a recently discovered monolith for a new colony. Baring unfortunate accident, in just 6 more years a new hive colony will be spawned.

In other news, I just killed my first worm today. Unfortunately, my unit receive no morale boost.

              2112 to Humphrey.

I can't believe some of your guys faction growth! I'm still languishing on 3 pop, and some of you are on 5! Methinks I may be in for a tough ride

Chaunk, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Morgan, played well, is the strongest faction in the game, in my opinion. Sure, you don't get any advantage in population growth, but you get big advantages for energy and for research.

On the other hand, I am quite worried about my prospects. As the slowest researcher, I believe I am the most affected by any "technology deflection". I should have a Planned society right now, but instead it will be delayed 12 years. This will easily put me at least 3 years behind where Hive normally is by then, and 3 years is a lot to make up.

But I am even more worried about the future. Normally, I can get the 5 key technologies I need by about 2035. Even if there is no further technology deflection, I have no clue how long I will be delayed in getting what is normally my 5th technology, IA. My best hope is to make contact with someone and trade for it

I know that other people may also be affected by technology deflection. But Morgan and University are far superior researchers, and I believe will likely suffer far less problems from technology deflection.

Sorry, don't mean to bellyache, but I believe Hive is in for a rougher start than any other faction due to the alteration of the technology path.

If its really that big an issue for you, go out and find MinuteMirages tech predicting spreadsheet. You've got a false idea that there is a technology path. You've simply played many games under identical conditions which produced identical tech choices.

question (waits for laughter to die down)

why do I have 2 orange"spheres" in one of my settlemeny areas, one on one tile and then another on a different tile?

                          Thanks

oh and I own a battle this round, not sure what I fought though

                          • Heh, check your in-game messages box G.Troll. It'll detail combat there. Also, the results of combats from last turn are displayed in the next.

Orange spheres are energy bonuses. You make +2 energy on them and unlike other tiles there is not a limit of 2 on them.

Can you give a pointer to this spreadsheet? I searched Apolyton and Google, and could not locate it.

I am not sure what you mean my identical conditions. I have generated Random maps of all shapes and sizes, played on custom maps, etc., and the tech path always the same for a given faction. So I don't see how it is a "false idea that there is a technology path".

Sure, if you mod factions or other things, the tech paths may change. But that is expected, because you are not actually playing the same faction if it is modded.

                              • I believe this is the spreadsheet Senethro is refering to. Not 100% sure as I haven't got office here and so haven't looked at it.

Basically, your faction slot number (I.e. 1-7, as shown by where you are on the powergraph) changes your tech choices, as does whether the game thinks you've traded techs before. Almost all CMNed games cause the game to think that tech trading has taken place, where in fact it has not. This alters your tech choices, as you're seeing. Sometimes horribly - I've played games before as the hive where I've been unable to start research on Planetary Networks until 2125 for example.
