  • hmm - maybe give the AI factions probe immunity? That way, if we want techs or cash from them we have to play nice (or threaten them) and rely on getting some good covert ops battles among us human players

It would actually spawn a different playstyle (for me at least) with a minimnum of well probe-defended coastal bases (whereas I usually head for the coast for as many bases as possible, to get navies, aquafarms, trawled energy etc. all working for me - that'd have to change)

I think disabling the Empath Guild is a good idea. Disabling Planetary Council I'm not so keen on, but am not going to stand in the way of this: I'll go along with whatever the majority wants here.

IIRC the Probe Immununity parameter only applies to units, and not bases (i.e. units can't be probed, however bases can still be probed). I am not in favor of this if my understanding is correct.

However, something else I've thought of is to give the AIs the Free Ability of Clean Reactors. This then would allow the AIs to chunk out the units without incurring the ever-increasing cost of mineral support. Any thoughts on this?

      • I am happy with the disabling of both the empath guild & the planetary council.

I am happy with a boosted AI of some description--probe immunity is probably a good idea--particularly if the AI will be able to amass many ECs.

I'm interested in playing either the Consciousness or the Spartans. I know that Hobbes' Hive would be a powerful faction but I just don't like playing them.

          • Now are you two interested in a fast reliable players type game-- I'm up for any settings you might suggest. How about a 3 player game where we have 2 factions each? or a small map slugfest ? or a superhuge map buildfest ?

I'm just tired of games that don't go anywhere and think that all 3 of us have soem of the most reliable reps around

That was my thinking as well.

What p****d me off was the change in players.

              Flubber for Mongoose - Fine

Darsnan for Flamesflash - Not fine.

I had built up a reasonable relationship with Flameflash to the extent I hadn't invaded him or alienated him from me to the Drones. He might still have joined the Hobbes/ Herc Allliance. As important, was, FF was a weak distant player- popping in from time to time but not making any crucial decisions. The change in approach (Because FF was in essence laid back) meant the Gaians became more involved and not on our side, (which I think FF would have joined).

These changes changed the dynamic of this long game.

While I do not doubt that changing players can change the dynamic, when I joined flameflash advised me that he was, in effect, a submissive to the Mongoose drone faction . .. that he had subejegated his faction with the goal of surviving. He copied me on the string of emails which included the followingfrom Mongoose to flameflash

I accept your submissive pact offer. I will do my best to assure
your survival to the end of the game; you will do yours to see that I win it.

                > What can I do soonest to help you most? I do have probe infiltration on Hobbes, gained against the day when I would lose Pact
                infiltration.

There is a problem in that he moves between us. Any data I send you will be inaccurate! by his latest move.

I'll send this by email and copy it to a PM, bein unsure of your mail access at the moment. Are you home yet?

From the very second I joined in, Flameflash agreed to do anything I said. While Darsnan MAY be a much stronger player ( I haven't seen enough of Flameflash to know) the chance of FF joining a herc-hobbes alliance was EXTREMELY low. He was very peeved with hobbes for attacking him and merely wanted his faction to survive .

So I think you are misremembering things since one of my first actions when I joined was to continue bribing FF to help him fight off hobbes. Darsnan joining was a risk since I could have lost that relationship.

yes. Sorry to move on without you but your turn rate was simply unacceptable. As I emailed you and posted here on sending you the turn, the destruction of your faction was inevitable on my next turn.

                  • Yes it was inevitable.

No hard feelings thanks for the game everyone.
