  • Tcp Ip!

Yeah, that's just another thread for TCP/IP.

But this time I'd try to add a bit of an organisation to it..

    So who's game?

I have always been interested in playing a TCP/IP game, just am not sure how.
I notice some recent games have been played.

Now that I have broadband TCP/IP is an option, I suppose.

I would be available Saturday next after 9.00 GMT.

Do I have to disable my Firewall or just permit incoming stuff from OK people?

Hmmm... I could lose faster this way! Unfortunatly, you people are on the other side of the world from me, so coordinating might be a little difficult.

Coordinating happens thru ICQ and MSN.

1.I have your ICQ Ouro, you just need to come online and say you could play than and than.
Hercules, could you pm me contact of yours, I'll be prob online Saturday and playing along with some ppl.

2.I play with people from US - CT, rothe, Australia - SgtSlick and Europe - blockhead, Lazerus, Sigmar.
You see its all around the world and it's not so big of a problem (Slick sometimes goes to sleep at the end of the game though ).

3.Some people have Firewalls and routers (which somehow make things difficult) and probably collisions.
As long as there's a non-FWed, non-routered good bandwidth host, FWed and routered people have no problems unless the needed ports have been disabled (usually the case if you try it from work).

4.Any more information on how-to arrange game - pm, ICQ or MSN me.

Wanted to join tonight, but forgot I don't have my laptop at home (where I can play TCP/IP), while where I am now there's firewall.

But I'd certainly like to play at some weekend.

I have a feeling more people, like me, are interested but are a little unsure of the actual techicalities and time commitment involved.

How does it work? in short.

Is it simultaneous resolution of orders or turn based still.

I understand that the game is hosted on one of our comps and then the game is saved and exit and the next player plays.

It's normally simultaneous, so it seems more like real time, while your moving your units others are moving theirs. When both players have hit turn enter synch checks for money, labs, production etc are done for everybody and the process repeats.
Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

1.Did you accept my invitement on ICQ? If so, next time you could play some, just keep ICQ open and 'online' and if Im ready to play as well, I will pop you a msg.

2.It works sim turns, yes, so it's something inbetween RTS and TBS - you dont have to exit game, just hit 'end turn' when everything's done and wait until everyone else is done, then you advance one turn and start again.
Just like in SP, but with the difference that the other players are humans and with difference, you will see other's movements during yours not before or after it.

I like this style of game because it lets you time to think not like normal RTS in which very much is based on reaction and reflexive tactics (tactics which are so worked out you can do them very fast, without thinking thus depriving you of big chunk of flexibility).
