New PBEM game

Ok, I'm playing against the CMD'ers. Yay!

The Player list is:
Darsnan
Googlie
wgabrie

I was hoping for Flubber but he's already busy playing other people. So shall we begin deciding on game settings and factions? Who's CMDing? As long as it is SMAC I'm happy. Not crossfire. A year later and I still can't find that disk. I blame the Ursupers. Beyond that I don't care.

Since someone may be rusty I'll let Darsnan and Googlie have the highest priority in faction picks.

Hmmm, you know, I don't ever recall playing against Googlie before. Should be interesting!
Do we have a CMN yet wgabrie? If not, I can see if Buster would do this for us. Also, are we waiting on a 4th here, or go as is?

I'm hoping for a fast turn rate on this. More players=greater possiblity of delays. But, I think we still have time for a fourth player. I don't know who though.

Anyways, we should start discussing game settings.

My preferences:

Game: SMAC
Land/ Sea Mix: 50/50
NL Level: Medium
Erosion: Minimal (i.e. extremely hilly)
Googlie's Probe Cruiser: available upon discovery of Doc: Init
Empath Guild: Disabled
Starting units: to speed up the early game lets start with 3 scouts, 1 regular CP (for founding HQ), and 2 speeder CP's (to expedite next 2 bases).

These are my thoughts on preferences. Feel free to voice your own opinions, and we can proceed from there.

Also, I have not approached Buster yet about CMN'ing this game. Typically when Buster CMN's games he just ensures that everyone has fair starting positions, without really enhancing the AI's at all (i.e. no free satelites for the AI's, no enhanced Faction.txt files, etc.) . FYI so that we are all on the same playing field as far as what to expect from the AI's if Buster CMN's the game. Finally, if Buster agrees to CMN this game, would it be correct of us to then have the turn tracking thread at CGN?

I must admit, I never played a SMAC PBEM game before, but there's a first time for everything and it sounds like fun.

I can contact buster, and he should do it for us. But the game will then reside at CGN instead. Anyone have an issue with that?
