  • Crap, I have to give my laptop away for a couple of days (maybe a week), so won't see the turn and the gift from Senethro (BTW, happy birthday!) anyway. On the top of that about that time we will have to look for replacement (2 weeks from now I'm saying farewell).

You know maybe somebody who could take the game just for 2 months? I'd really like to get it back at the beginning of September.

hmm-- are you going to be totally impossible to reach for those two months? I ask because I find games really slow down in the summer anyway and if you thought you could manage even a turn a week to 10 days, that would be ok

Do you mind sharing where you are going ?

Oh and if you need a replacement, there are any number of regular players that you could ask. I know that I have filled that role for darsnan and would for anyone that asked .

First I'm gonna invade southern France and work at a construction site there and then I'm moving to England after ca two - three weeks. In the former I won't be even able to access the Net (it's supposed to be the countryside) while in the latter I could probably do turns if I weren't using the crack (my CD has been broken for a long long time and getting original SMAX in Poland is next to a miracle, as we can't even purchase anything on e-bay).

I know usually it wouldn't be any problem but right now there are so many of us that I'd expect if any of us resigned from the game it'd die off automatically.

Sorry, but I can't do the turn before next after next Tuesday.

          EDIT: grammar

          • I suppose I might as well reveal that it is you I'm going to attack. That transport you located in the middle of the ocean is one of many and also the furthest away. I'm hoping to capture 5 cities next turn, possibly including your capital. Due to inefficiency energy loss and removal of the PTS drone quelling effect I'm hoping that the majority of your bases will riot, leaving you without production or even energy to hurry/probe next turn.

You're not going to be around for much longer

            • The chancellor marched into the room and snapped at his generals "Situation report"

A SIGINT general cleared his throat and spoke hesitatingly " well err . . .umm . . . at 1500 this evening our monitors picked up an open signal, purporting to be from Senethro himself. The text was a claim that the empire of Kirov is in dire danger and essentially that mortal damage to the Kirov empire is unstoppable"

The chancellor blanched " our assessment?"

The chair of the joint chiefs spoke up " Voice analysis indicates a match with the voice of Senethro so it is unlikely a fake message . Spartan SIGINT would have picked it up and no denials have been issued. Our military assessment is that the Spartans have large numbers of elite ground forces and adequate transport capability. Our scouts have spotted units on routes consistent with this attack and more importantly many Spartan units have been undetected for a long enough period to make these claims feasible."

The chancellor's brow furrowed further " So the short answer is that we think its likely the message is an accurate description of the situation"

"Yes sir ", the chair replied, " but we are hampered by our lack of accurate data concerning the Kirovian empire. Perhaps they have some surprises in store for the spartans"

              "Perhaps-- what are our dispositions?"

"As per your orders sir we are at DEFCON BETA. Our assessment is that a foreign aircraft could strike our territory but would not survive to leave. Our scouting is such that no transport could approach within 218 sectoids without being observed. In addition our naval forces have moved out of air range of all other factions and will continue to patrol."

" Very well . . . keep me posted . . . I do not believe we can do anything other than watch and wait

              • Turn sent. I have some dipo issues to resolve (email and, now obviously here.) that I simply cannot get to right now because of the move and having to set up a new home with my fiancee. I will get to them as quickly as I can.
                Sorry for the delay.

                • It will be interesting to hear how successful senethro's attack will be. Given the turn order he could not know exactly what he is facing.

It always seems to be a corollory to Murphy's law that players will always have unavoidable absences at the most crucial points in the game

                  • It went as well as can be hoped. 2 bases destroyed, 3 captured including the capital. No casualties (No damage!) and I have needlejets in the area. Spartan landing forces will double in the following turns.

A few bright spots for the Cyborgs - they will complete a chopper next turn and the destruction of 2 bases took them under a bureacracy limit so not all of their bases will riot.

                    • Damn, it seems you really got me here. Doesn't sound as if I could defend. I must say I'm paying a due price for underestimating the threat. Congratulations to you, curses on me.

The worst thing is that I can't even open or forward the turn. And I won't be able to do more than 1-2 of them between the Tuesday I'm getting back my laptop and the Friday I'm leaving. Curses again.

                        .
I am not surprised. It was apparent that the Spartans intended to attack someone and if it wasn't going to be me, kirov was the obvious target

                        • In fact, it was Flubber acquiring air power that forced my hand. As a survivalist I needed a safe place. Now that my entire territory fell into an air power frontline I needed a new homeland.

And who was it that enabled flubber to get air power so fast?

Don't worry Kirov, I will teach your people to love discipline and endure hardship. And after they have survived the coming turmoil they will be grateful.

                          • After careful consideration of the situation, the UN Peacekeepers have been forced to declare this operation as legal under the Laws of Planetary Vendetta.

A statement from the Governor's office was issued by an undersecretary:
"Due to failure of the Cyborg faction to uphold their end of a Treaty signed long ago between the belligerents, it is within the bounds of law for the Spartan Federation to seek other compensation by way of collateral. That the price to be paid is so high is unfortunate, but entirely legal. It is our hope that through keen manovering and wise capitulation, as well as Humanitarian Aid and Interfactional Peacekeepers, that this conflict will find a swift and relativly bloodless resolution."

Brother Fosse could not be reached for direct comment, and it has been rumored that internal divisions within the Peacekeeping faction have left its government in relative shambles. An official close to the administration, speaking anonymously, stated, "It's one thing to seek to honor laws and agreements. But 'honor' is an absurd concept when we are discussing matters of security. The administration is shooting itself and its friends in the foot in every way it can."

It is believed that the Peacekeeping faction, after moving its government from a small headquarters in the capital city that has served it since Planetfall to one more luxurious and enviable, will soon reestablish a more "hands-on" approach to governing its people.

                            • The chancellor strode into the situation room and seated himself at the head of table. "Status report" he uttered curtly.

An older colonel stood and spoke easily for 5 minutes , reciting troop dispositions and strategic issues for consideration.

"It appears there is much we do not know " interrupted the chancellor.

" Well yes sir. The Kirovian empire is remote and almost all of our forces and efforts haved been dedicated to homeland defence. We will get a fuller report from them once they once they check in after their next set of patrols. But currently we believe that the reports from the Spartans are accurate in that they have captured substantial Cyborg bases. However our estimates are that they have underestimated Cyborg resources and abilities and they may be surprised by the Cyborg counterstrike"

"Do the Cyborgs really have the ability to repulse them ?"

"Unknown at this time. It will depend completely on how fast they can transform industrial capacity into mobolized military force. Apparently the Spartans obtained strategic and tactical surprise"

"So what course of action do you propose?"

" None sir. Governor fosse has declared the invasion to be in accordance with international law and while our law school professors tend to disagree with that conclusion, they indicate that no international body will impose any sanctions in the face of that declaration. We therefore propose that the situation be monitored and we continue to build up our defensive forces"

"Approved. I'll be here at 0800 for an update"

                              • The chancellor strode into his 8am briefing. "Update", he snapped.

"Sir, we have no new information"

                                "None??"

"Sorry sir. We have sent detailed queries out to all intelligence and military units but do not expect replies until they finish their current patrols. Meanwhile, officials of the 3 other factions have made no announcements at all. They appear to be not leaking anything at present either so its difficult to know what was going on. We did pick up a distress call from cyborg civilians but the transmitter stopped sending before we gained any data of value"

                                "So I can do nothing"

"Sir , with respect, there is nothing you can do until the new year arrives. "
