      • Turn sent. Hope you're still about, Platy.

Mart, you were supposed to defy the council like AI players are prone to do

        • Actually, I just set up a quick test scenario and I believe that the text box giving the option of defiance will appear on your next turn.

I'm also not clear on how to win after defying.

A test of Economic Victory in multiplayer showed some funny stuff going on regarding HQs...

My goal is that of the group and of the greater race; transcendance.

                  • Oh well, it was fun.

I'll be honest Lazerus, while we worked together very well I was afraid that you would turn Chairman on me at the very last minute and I would be forced to hit the Corner Energy Market button. At the time of last turn your entire empire could be bought for about 3000 ecs! Not that I have great confidence I could have held out for 20 turns, but its an interesting point.

Anyone got any comments about this game? I feel that the lack of landbridges turned it into a buildathon. 3 players went for 1x1 ICSing with Laz and me specialising into minerals and energy and Mart mostly energy as far as I could tell.

I'm no expert in ICS and am not at all sure how I would improve my game. I was still 3 turns away from having a single size 5 base at the end of play. Having the Weather Paradigm would have certainly helped. If I were to play again I would probably specialise one or two core bases in nuts and a few more in mins. Laz's nut resource boosted HQ and multiplicative facilities made a large proportion of his research. I also have little doubt that having more crawlers and earlier would have improved my game. Some high mineral cities would have given me that.

This game is also a textbook example of how much turn advantage is generated by close base spacing.

                    • I am experimenting/learning with ICS myself also.
In here I tried the thing with "constant population 2"
When you have pop 2 base you gather only 2 rows of food and then new colony pod does not decrease your pop to 1, but it remains at 2. Nice stuff, once you get 2 workers on good tiles your base does not go through stages of good production and bad production - after population loss due to colony pod. And with 1x1 ICS still every base usually has 2 tiles for that.
Is it efficient? I am not sure, Hive was better still. Colony pods in Univ were built somewhere between crawlers and formers. I also invested in 1-1t-1 units. There was time worms were nasty and I lost one base, coz of lack of a defensive unit.

Oh i was so extremely tempted but nah i don't like to break pacts in such a cynical manner, it turns the game from being fun to play to soulless number cruncher. As for the 20 turns, i agree i don't think you'd have held out, 1 sea base from my western shore and then you would have to cope with my entire industry and with nobody to trade with ... *cough* whats that smell ? *drops dead*

I concentrated more on minerals then energy which i just saw as a pleasant extra from my boreholes.
Yeah my Hive ruled 1/4 of my total tech points i think it was getting, really made up for all my trade partners being annexed heh.
I definately think some more minerals would have done your bases good, was something like 170ish crawlers i had, nearly all getting mins.

ps, When i built the HSA in about a turn i'm sure that would have rocketed the global energy market cost, right ? Maybe it was so cheap because we were pacted aswell ?

                          • As you were Pacted your bases are not included in calculating the cost! I calculated 3000 by comparing the difference when we were Pacted and unpacted and multiplied by 2.
