Shawnmmcc: could you provide a link for thoughts on Pirates? I was toying with the idea of playing them myself, but they're too specific for me to try them in my first MP. Anyway, it's a nice idea to paly SMAX factions only. I'll pick sth else, either angels or domai (aki-zeta is somewhat too strong and too boring).

Darsnan, thank you for your assistance. I don't know as it is for others, but I'd like to try sth interesting, non-standard AI among it and would be grateful for help. However, we still wait for the fourth player, if Fosee is not up for AX.

I 'll play if no-one eager shows up, but there's the need to check if DD has SMAC/X. If he hasn't then you are back to SMAC maybe and with the original 4 sign ups.

I built an SP Challenge back in February over at CGN starring the Pirates. You can find the thread here . It is non-standard in that the 8th Faction has been "enhanced" in this one, but the feedback has been very good as far as how players approached playing the Pirates.
The Challenge is also very representative of the things I can do with AI Factions, just as a heads up for you in the upcoming game, in case you are interested. FYI.

I knew I was forgetting somebody I'm up to any of the four factions we are discussing, and the Cyborgs are still weaker than the University (unless they get the cloning vats)

Darsnan, how can I find a thread I posted between one and two years ago in the SMAC help forums. I've never tried to before, and now I can't seem to find it - I'm looking for my pirates post, which I don't believe I saved. I very much like the idea of special units for the AI, especially on a large or huge world.

Preferences - huge, abundant life forms, medium cloud cover and medium erosion. 30-50% water which on a huge map typically is on the high side, I want SOME decent oceans . Do we want Aliens, or do we want humans for AI - I'll be honest, the Aliens are boring, they make a hostile Yang simply look grumpy. Good morning, and good night.

Settings of shawnmmcc are fine for me. No Aliens also.

DilithiumDad, do you have AX? if so, we're looking for 1 player, if not, we get plain AC. And DD, choose an AX faction if you are fine with the Shawn's idea.

For now we have:

Kirov - Data Angels (if we fix the probe bug somehow)
Shawnmmcc - Pirates
DD - ?
? - ?

Fix Probe Bug easily - anybody who goes +4 probe announces it - and nobody probes them. Using trade screens and infiltrators, it will be pretty easy to see if someone is cheating.

Hi Guys,

Since there's four of us, why don't we play a CGN game. (Go here if your not familiar with the site.) That site caters to SMAC(X) players well, and it is easier for people who aren't as computer savy, like me. My computer has the darndest times trying to load the pages at Apolyton.

The rules set is pretty good and Darsnan (our CMN) is familiar with the set-up procedure.

If DD feels like picking another SMAX faction, then we could have a classic SMAX game with the sub factions.

And shawnmmcc, has pretty well answered the Data Angels issue.

Any way. Just my thoughts.

I could do CGN, just hadn't bothered. Let's put the game thread on CGN. Could we go without directed research - makes trading tech a much bigger issue, and diplomacy more fun. No tech on taking city - that way Cyborgs get their special deal. Do we want tech-stagnation, haven't played with it for years, but that could make an interesting builder game? I'm up to different erosion and cloud cover, I just normally play with them on medium - want to let the CMN choose so we get a surprise - i.e. everything except size, I REALLY love huge. Oh, and since we have a CMN let him choose initial starting sites, I've played in games he starts and he has a flare for that.
