  • Turn arrived, played and over to the Hive. I've blocked out my next broadcast, but haven't recorded it yet. I'll try to get it up soon.

Chip_Buckner has kindly sent me the most recent turn (M.Y. 2160) on my request. My intention was to check if everything has been done correctly and to see if I could find any explanation to the recent delays in the game.

I did find indications of modified (customized or replaced) game files and all players have been notified via e-mail. Everything else looks fine. While it is not for me to decide what should be done, all players should have access to this information. I'll post my findings/conclusions once I've heard from all of you.

          Meanwhile, the game may continue.

          • Hi Rubin

Um I did alter my faction files to provide a an interesting change in my single player games. As far as I know my altered files won't change the behaviour of the AI factions in the multiplayer game, the only effect is the names of the bases. If you like I can send you all my faction files for inspection?

            Regards
            Marco

                  TimeWarpers:

                  Regarding the modified game files:
I've found that marcovalente's modified game files do contain information that alters gameplay. The Hive and the Peacekeepers behave differently between player turns -- that is, if the AI or marcovalente engage in actions involving JMarshFox and Net Warrior. The Morganites and the Spartans also behave differently -- in this case very differently! The behavior of these two factions has very little resemblance to the 'original' behavior.
I've sent a copy of the original files to marcovalente and I suggest these replace the modified files currently in play. If you choose to keep the modified files, I'll elaborate on the changes. However, the players should make this decision---not me.

                  Regarding the turn delays:
I have not been able to identify a certain cause for the delays, although I'm aware that marcovalente's internet service provider is somewhat unreliable. I suggest that the zipped save files are being attached here in the turn thread -- and deleted once the turn transfer has been confirmed. Currently, this applies to all players except Net Warrior. I also encourage you all to keep a daily eye on the turn thread and post if you're unable to download or haven't received the turn or are unable to play the turn within 24 hours. I think these measures are sufficient to get an acceptable turn pace.

I've received very kind and informative e-mails from all of you. Thank you for your help. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or a problem or concern arises.

                  • Hey guys sorry for that, I really didn't think those files would affect multiplayer games. I thought the files were originally loaded in the save and only the base names would be affected. I will replace my faction files at ounce with the original ones. My apologies.

                      • 2161 to Gaians.

No problem Marco. As long as we all played under the same conditions, I guess there's no harm done. BTW, do you know how those factions behaved differently than they should have behaved?

Rubin, could you elaborate on what original behavior vs altered behavior might have looked like?

                        Comment

                        • A Brief Explanation on Modified Behavior

This behavior only happens during marcovalente's turn -- until another player loads the game.

If native life would attack Hive settlements/units, the Hive would immediately receive a -20% penalty -- effectively making the Hive more vulnerable to native aggression. However, it also seems that the Hive receives an intrinsic a +100% PSI bonus. Thus, the Hive is a rather strong opponent when engaged in PSI combat. Whether these are positive or negative effects they definitely alter the abilities of the Hive.

The Morganites receive a +2 morale bonus and is less inclined to use Free Market. The morganic -1 support is no longer present and there is no size 4 population limit. This setup provides for better and stronger military; together with less expenses and a larger population.

The Spartans have a +20% industry bonus, -30% planet rating but +2 extra nutrients, minerals and energy from all fungus squares, cheaper hurry costs, etc. etc. Hmm, a powerhouse!

The Peacekeepers receive a +10% bonus when attacked by native life. The rest of the Peacekeeper modifications do not seem to have influenced gameplay.

The worry here is that these effects have only been present whenever marcovalente was playing, thus giving marcovalente quite a different set of 'opponents'. So, you cannot possibly all have been playing under the same conditions. Especially when the AI players (following marcovalente) are playing--the Morganites and especially the Spartans would do much better offensively, and the Spartans would be able to produce a considerably larger army more quickly.

These are serious changes to the gameplay and--to use Net Warriors expression--much 'harm' has actually been done. If any of you have specific questions regarding your situation (and earlier events) in the game, please do not hesitate to contact me.

                              • Hey guys if i knew the factions would be different in the multiplayer game i wouldn't done this. I thought that in a multiplayer game the text files was originally loaded into the save from whoever started the game.
                                I am deeply sorry.
