  • Anyone making a modern Earth scenario?

    I'd like to know, please.

This game is very fun, but the futuristic setting throws me off a bit.

If anyone is making a modern day Earth scenario, please reply.

Not exactly the same thing, but quite. There are some players who don't like so much the futuristic setting (I love SMAC/X despite of it ...):
Did someone make a historical mod? Thus a Civilization with the SMAC/X engine?
Requires probably a quite bit of rearranging:
    - Tech tree would have to be completely changed
    - Order of diverse special abilities should be changed (flight and raising/lowering terrain much later, cloaking device perhaps earlier, hey even the Amerindians painted their horses transparent, as we can learn from Lucky Luke )
    - Fungus -> primeval forest, worms can be barbarians again
    - culture specific "Book of Earth"?
Perhaps that would make a decent game.
Maybe with such a mod I could make my brother play SMAC/X. At the moment he prefers CivCTP
Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?

It would be nice...the unit system would work great with historic earth, I think...infantry is much the same, really...though some aesthetic issues might be a little odd...depending. But you just have various melee weapons, various missle ones...evntually guns...and so forth. Would work fine.

And the government system....mmm...gravy. I wish Civ III had this at least (as well as the diplomatic system).

I'd love to play a game like Civilization that plays like SMAC. Perhaps in Shangri-La such a thing exists.

youd need even more than 14 factions at once though

Not necesarily civ 2 only plays with 7 civs...

And there are allready numerous civ 2 scenarios with premade tech trees usable for this

So... is anyone peeked deeper into AC files to actually
convert civ2 into it? I am looking forward to...

The problem with translating the game from SMAC/X to Civ2 is the design workshop, which cannot be bypassed.

SMAC units are generally assembled out of component parts. While you can give some general guidance in the SMAC text files on what units to design, any AI players will design what they wish.

The graphics system SMAC/X uses makes visual alterations very difficult also, but I suppose you could just use your imagination.

You could adjust the SMAC/X tech tree into something approximating Civ2, rename and move facilities and secret projects(wonders), and make other cosmetic changes, but by mid-game you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between SMAC and a SMAC Civ Mod.

Things might be moved around a bit and renamed, but the games would play almost the same.

For myself at least, I think I would find the illusion that I was playing a new Civ game would break down very quickly.

good idea Civ 3 is a piece of sh1t... the SMAC engine is much better... hopefully someone will take the time to start such a project.
