  • Custom Facilities?

    I can't find much documentation on the web for customizing SMAC - understandably, since it's not as open to user mods as CivII was.

    However, in the scenario editor I can see a few empty spaces between the facilities and the Secret Projects. Does this mean that we could in theory create new facs and SPs? Or could we alter existing facs' powers?

    I'm interested because I think it would be fun to have some SP that could eliminate the negative aspects of each SE choice. Obviously certain SPs would then be in high demand for certain factions.

    Anybody else tried this out?

    Hmmm... interesting idea. Have to keep checking on this thread, if someone has ideas for this...

      AFAIK, the only kind of facility/SP creation allowed in SMAX (unsure about SMAC) is that you can create "new" things to be built, customise thier price/tech etc but the only thing that the facilities will be capable of generating is maintendance since the facility functions are hard-encoded in terran.exe

      But this doesn't stop you from building new proj/facs with NEGATIVE maintenance - thus generating energy! I am sure that it works for both facilities and projs, when you edit existing ones but I never tinkered much with creating new stuff. But of course, you need to design and provide the graphics the game will use for the new feature.

        I believe that Shining, in his SNAC mod, created six or so new techs as well as a few new facilities, and 2 SPs, that "took" in the game. Had the effect of pushing crawlers way back, as well as choppers, which were generally considered to be features that humans used extensively but the AI didn't.

        I don't believe that Shining ever designed a SNAX mod.

        And I don't know if he modified the .exe program. I do believe that he was one of the AoE lead programmers, so wasn't a neophyte in this field.

          He changed around a bunch of prereqs and created many new techs, but from what I see here, unless he made a version after 1.2, there's no new facilities or SP's.

            Shame...I did always think that negating the penalties of some of the other SE choices (like Eudy, for example, or Fundy) would be interesting. Of course, it is always possible to just give the factions immunity to the negatives (as Yang has for Effic penalties), but somehow it wouldn't be as fun...
