  • Can Fungus be made to spread like forest?

    Hi!
Was messing around, and the idea occurred to me that I'd like things a lot better if the fungus grew, like the forests do.
Anyone know if this is possible, or am I just wishing?

I'll get nightmares from just a thought of that happening

Well, the thought is based on the War Against the Chtorr, by David Gerrold.
Take a map of Earth. Build up lots and lots of cities and population, to the spaceflight level, including space elevator.
Don't include any centauri techs, or tree farms or hybrids.
      So MASSIVE eco damage.
Now, cover up a) the moral levels and b) the eco damage
      and plant a fungus.
      That's the beginning.
      You should have:
Massive fungal blooms, massive numbers of worms/locusts/isles, plagues, meteor strikes, and lots of chaos.
That's almost exactly what that series of books depicts.

      Lots of fun!
      Oh, and the fungus grows.

Oh, btw, the moral is disguised because no one has any clue why some attempts to kill the worms work, and some fail.
And the Eco-Damage is also disguised, because, well, because this is earth, and we somehow never seem to understand that such things are bad.

Not that I'm aware of. It's too bad really, it would make for a nightmare indeed! You can however create a scenario in which the ecodamage is maxed out for everyone already (through a bunch of PB's around, save the game as a scenario, or other things). You can assert that any or all factions have committed many atrocities, etc. as well. This ED scenario will have the effect of making 'pops' everywhere, and mostly full of worms. And on the other hand, you can make forest produce nothing, which just makes it annoying, but not mean like fungus.

I wonder why, since it's a terrain enhancement, like fungus, and theres another example of spreading enhancements (kelp).

The AI would suffer badly with spreading fungus, since it can't terraform properly in most cases. I totally agree though, it would be fun. You'd have to have the game start out with very few patches though, as the AI would soon be surrounded and give up making new bases (which it does when you play with lot's of native life).
