  • Suggestions and a Question

Hey peeps. I got a question for you all, if anyone knows how to modify or something like that...

I was thinking... for single player mode, especially on the Huge Map of Planet, it makes no sense for there to be just SEVEN factions, especially with Alien Crossfire. Where's all the other factions these new five came from? It'd be a lot cooler if we could have all fourteen going at once. Has such a thing been made, or is anyone interested in making one?

Next, I'm writing a script for a SMAC RPG. It'll probably never be completed, but the idea will be there.

That's about it. Send me thy thoughts. Cya!

    Short answer: Nopers

I don't think it's possible to have the game use more than 7 factions. I've wondered why this is so with all the civ-smac series, but it just is so.

About the RPG. You might want to do a search on Apolyton under 'RPG' or 'tabletop game' or similar terms. I seem to remember someone has tried this before?

    Good luck!

Aww... No ability to make 14 factions at one time? That sucks... I always wanted to play the game as it was intended to be in the stories - with all 14 on the board.

Anyway, check out this script. Gimme input! IIIINPPUUUUT...

-= Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri: Planet Rising
-= An RPG fan game script by Trevor Harrigan

      -=OPENING (The Prelude) =-

*Fade in scene of Earth in orbit. Small dots of explosions, random fires, some smoke. More brown than green. The U.N.S Unity hovers above.

Narrator: In the year 2060, Earth was in ruins. Regieme replaced regieme. Nations fragmented. Riots and anarchy overwhelmed the world. Civilization was on the bridge of collapse through nuclear war. In a depserate and rushed attmept to save the species, the United Nations sent the colonist starship, U.N.S Unity, on a fourty-year trip to the Sun's nearest neighbor - Alpha Centauri.

*The Unity's engines flare up and it speeds off in a flash. The screen fades out. Fade in scene of the crippled Unity in orbit above Planet.

Narrator: But the mission was fraught with danger. An asteroid and survivalist conspirators crippled the Unity, killing many people and assasinating the captain. Leaderless, the crew fragmented into seven distinct factions: not by nationality, but by ideology and their hope for the new world.

*Eight colony pods detach from the Unity and take off. One goes out of control and explodes. The colony pods head down to Planet.

Narrator: The remaining factions, led by members of the Unity staff, now seek their destiny under an alien sky.

*Fade out of the view of planet. Fade in to a view of a nondescript colonial metropolis.

Narrator: It is now Mission Year 2150, and twelve distinct nations sprawl across Chiron's surface. An uneasy peace exists between the factions, broken only by skrimishes between resources and personal vendettas between former leaders of the Unity. That uneasy peace, however, is about to be broken, and the fate of humanity itself will hang in the balance.

*Fade out. Fade in opening credits music, with a large mode 7 map of Planet's surface. It is night, and a lone Needlejet is patrolling the skies. Roll opening credits - main producer and creator of the game, assisting people, and special thanks to Sid Meier and the people of Fraxis. As it slowly becomes dawn, the Needlejet will fly off into the sunlight. Fade out.

*Play opening theme for Lab Three. Fade in a ravaged University of Planet city. Overlaid transparent fog, ruined buildings, headless or bloody corpses littering the streets. Wreckage of equipment and military units.

Narrator: This is Lab Three, the remains of a once-proud subsidary of the University of Planet, the brilliant yet unetihcal faction of Prokhor Zarkhov. Sadly, it has succumbed to the assault of Chiron's native life, the voracious Mindworms.

*Fade out. Fade in a horizontal scrolling scene of the city, down what appears to be a main street. More corpses, more fog, more wreckage.

Narrator: In the aftermath of Lab Three, the mindworms receeded, retreating back into the recesses of planet's world-spanning xenofungus. No survivors remain... or are there?

*Fade out, fade in to a non-parallaxing scene of a lot of wreckage, and an overturned speeder, several dead bodies.

???: Hello? Is anyone still alive?

      *Pause.

      ???: Hello?!

*A man in a white University security uniform walks slowly in from the east. He pauses, looking around, and then heads for the bodies near the speeder. He kneels down

???: ...All dead... ...Everyone is dead... ... No survivors...

*The man stands up and looks down.

      ???: I'm alone...

*The man looks up again and seems to be using his hand to see off in the distance, to the north.

???: There is nothing for me here... If I stay, the mindworms will surely return for me. I can't wait for the Academcian's search parties...

???: ...I guess now is the time to look for any supplies that may be left.

*Fade out. Fade in to name selection. Our hero is a former University of Planet security guard. He is armed with a Shredder pistol, and only has Scout Patrol equipment - a respirator and protective clothing to guard against the nitrogen rich atmosphere. Fade in, along with new music - the music to the playable version of Lab Three.

-= UNIVERSITY CITY: LAB THREE RUINS

      -= Important items:
Flame Gun x1 (Can't leave until this item is recovered)
Nutrient Pack x10 (Prevents slow loss of HP on overworld map as time goes by, and these will slowly be used up instead. If used on the menu or in battle, it will heal the user with a large amount of HP.)
Medical Kit x1 (Heals the user to full health.)

Lab Three is a small research city that has been destroyed by Chiron's native life. No one except our hero is alive. Smoldering and burning wreckage abound. Should our hero stop to check any bodies, he will simply say "His head is gone..." or "His brain is missing..."

Some of the NPC's may contain a nutrient pack. There are also some lying around the ground in the rec commons building, or in the ruins of the Hab Complex. The medical kit can be found in the remains of the Research Hospital/Biology Lab.

The flame gun can be found near the bodies of several University Security Guards (Upon which the hero will recognize their names, and sigh for them. He will then take the weapon). If he tries to leave the base without it, he will remind himself that the world is dangerous and he needs some form of protection other than his shredder pistol.

Seriously, I'd like some replies here... What do you think of the idea script thing for the SMAC RPG (post above this one)? I mean... No one said anything...

I read it, and I think it's interesting. Not sure how you plan to make it into an RPG? By the way, did you look for other SMAC RPG's? Or are you more interested in writing? There's some great fiction by smac-fans on those threads...not sure where you are going with this. Also, the Creation threads don't get very many readers. Most people like SMAC just the way it is and have plenty to talk about/discuss with just that.

I don't really understand how you plan to make your RPG. Do you plan to make a SMAC scenario that works like a RPG? If so, how do you plan to do this, i don't think the game engine could simulate RPG conditions like the trigger system of starcraft, but if you know how to make this, could you explain it.

Well, as far as this one goes, I'm gonna try to use an RPG creator called Verge (I think it's at www.verge-rpg.com ... ) to make a sort of Final Fantasy SNES-like setup. You remember FF3/6 and FF4?

I was thinking the overall feel of the graphics could look like that. A standalone RPG based on SMAC... Not really a MOD within SMAC.

As far as your suggestion goes about heading to the main forum, I might do that. I thought the creation forum was for anything SMAC related, not just SMAC Modding.

It won't be a MOD of SMAC. It'll be done in some other game creation system, like Verge. I just posted it here because I thought this was a forum for all things made for SMAC.

I agree, the Creation Forum is the place to be, either here, or in the 'Alt-Civ' section of the main boards. The strategies section is for strategies for existing games, namely Smac and Smax. Ah, at least I see what you're trying to do now. Good luck!
