INTRODUCTION
I recently was given a set of pastel crayons by a friend. Along with my existing watercolours I plan to create a game-board usable with any RISK game set in existence.
INITIAL LANDMARK TERRITORIES
First I have planned out a couple randomly generated maps to look at overall board redesigns that will useful for the SMAC board. Now I am starting to redraw the map of planet into its respective landmarks(*1). However on the computer my copy of SMAC resides is not connected to internet. So as a favor I ask you; Can one of you help me find or take a pic of the map of planet(*2)?
(*1)landmarks
On land landmarks are fairly obvious as territories,
Basic outlines related to ideal control, or related to geographical realities, or related to landmark borders;
In sea landmarks, the various straits and base rich areas serve as obvious territories,
Deep sea outside this would be too difficult to contain so conflict free movement;
(*2)map of planet
Only a screenie that shows all the map is necessary. Closer pics would not be necessary.
The map can then be redrawn on paper. I redraw so that I can explore the shape of the terrain. This might help stylize the board correctly when I draw it out.
Then I can use my non-internet PC and match territories within my SMAC copy with what I drew. This initial map can then be computer drawn or scanned for further collaboration.
I wouldn't ask for the pic, but I cannot find it using search engines. Sorry.
FACTION STARTING TERRITORIES
Obvious faction related territories would be the land zones whose "minimum growth till hitting a landmark is projected".
(*1)minimum growth....landmark is projected
If Morgan's fourth base marks an incursion into the Monsoon Jungle, then the faction territory will be drawn to its effective size at the time of three bases.
MISC TERRITORIES
For board design or aesthetic reasons additional territories might need naming. Some possible candidates are areas of important events(planet bustings, fungal ravages, be creative.)
Also areas attached to possible renegade factions(I am not using Alien Crossfire(*1) as canon for this board).
Areas of important faction expansions that aren't in the above list.
(*1)not using Alien Crossfire as canon
I never had a copy of SMAX so am not very familiar. Also this is an opportunity to explore the renegade faction idea from a fresh angle. Namely the angle of where there are spaces for renegade territory and the relative levels of development of the home territory they originate from.
BOARD REDESIGN
Idea A - In the Avalon Hill game Wizard's quest the number of spaces was designed for use with a 2D6 roll to determine which individual territory was affected by certain global random events. A similar feature could be implemented in this board, allowing for emergent gameplay.
Idea B - Territories with a port symbol(or sea territories) can communicate with any other territory adjacent to the deep sea it touches.
