I just restarted playing and I want to set the menu preferences so I don't have to reset them with a new game. Been trying to find a thread on it.

To configure the game to save your preferences, add the following line to your Alpha Centauri.ini file:
DontResetBeginnerPrefs=1
I'm assuming that you're playing at one of the lower difficulty levels. At higher levels, this command isn't needed. Please post again if this doesn't work.
