Solar flares - Alternative graphics

Greetings fellow centauris!

It's amazing that a decade later there are still people paying attention to this ancient jewel of a game , I would have thought I was the only coelocanth still playing Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri . My love affaire with SMAC/X began in 1999 and continues as fresh as the first day, still own and play from the original CDs.

Here goes a token of the many mods I've done to my game in all these years, an alternative image for the 'solar flares' random event [#SOLARSTORM] (the one that suddenly leaves you pants-down without space defence stations, then the Believers' witch nukes you to heaven ), with the Alpha Prime star flaring furiously:

To install: First make a safety copy of the sun_sm.pcx file in your Alpha Centauri root directory; then unzip the file in the aforementioned directory.

I've downloaded this, had a look, and am sending it to Darsnan, who will most likely want to use it in his mods- he likes to add variety.

I have never been hit by an asteroid(I'm guessing that's what the 2nd one is) nor have I looked up the picture for it to compare, but it looks cool, the solar flare looks very good too.

Lucky man, it hits hard (literally ) when it happens. I find this game more interesting with random events and blind research active.

BTW notice the humorous tag in script.txt for the base erasing asteroid impact event :

Little artistical merit on my part however, merely paint shop prop'ed a bit these pictures.

I since looked up the original file with that name it looks rather crappy in comparison to that one.It's just a picture of a crater very dissapointing.

It's immature of me, but I just wanted to call attention to what the middle of the before crater looks like. Maybe it's just my eyesight going on me, but the south end of my dog (Polly- no kiddin') looks a lot like that when she needs to go, bad.
