  • Terraforming Victory actually done?

I have done work on the terraforming victory idea I mentioned in an earlier posting. To those who don't remember that, I describe it as this:
It is a victory condition for the more anthropocentric factons,
Such as a former faction, or AXIS. It involves turning Chiron into a more Earth like planet. How is this applied in the game? Each tree and fungus square is counted. When the trees outnumber the fungus by a significant amount, you must then start a Secret Project that will finish the job.
Three questions arise: How do write this in the concepts text,
how much is a significant amount, and what would be a good name for the secret project?

Eden Initiation Sequence is good, but what I need to figure out now is how to work out the actual mechanics. Should i make it so that there are Former point that you have to genrerate more of thna the Fungus point, or a scale that goes from postive to negative 100, which goes a few points positive for ever tree planted and negative for every fungus square? And either way, I have to figure out how much is needed for the secret project to be possible. I actually prefer the former, But if anyone else has a better idea, I'd love to hear it.

            The Gaia Conversion.

You could have it required to first forest a lot of the map and then build a lot of "Pylons" with formers. The Pylons would be designed to destroy Planetmind. Once you have a bunch of Pylons you can build a Secret Project to activate the Pylons.

Once activated the Pylons start draining a massive amount of energy/turn and attacking Planetmind with massive focused psi bursts. This upsets planetmind somewhat and she fights back with significant numbers of pops, mainly against the offending player, but also increasing native activity everywhere. Additional effects could be earthquakes and stuff.

After sustaining the attack for a sufficient number of turns Planetmind dies, the fungus shortly withers away too. The hardware can then be turned on the other factions, effectively killing/torturing any targeted population on the planet with the psi/energy attacks. The other leaders are forced to submit.

It's not a pleasant victory type but the "Victory" would be there .

I seem to recall an almost identical mechanism in CtP2

You're either saying that stealing ideas is a bad thing, or that everything from CTP/2 is bad.

The idea I now have is to make it so you have to get former points. The amount of former points is determined by amount of forest- thenumber of xenofungus squares. Once you have at least 10 or twenty former points, you can then use the Eden Initiation Sequence Orbital Facility to kill the Planet Mind. The first condition has to work in order for the E.I.S. to do anything. What do you think?

Eden Initiation Sequence is a good name for the tech/project, but considering that the main focus is on killing the planet mind, wouldn't Xenocide Victory be quite an appropriate name for the results page? That makes it clear that is the absolute antithesis to a 'gaian' approach of a peaceful relationship with planet, planetmind and native life.

Yes, Xenocide works for the results page. My next problem is how to make it so that a wonder or orbital facility is either going to fail or not be able to be built until the right amount of former points have been achieved. Any suggestions?

So does it matter who builds the forest, or can another faction jump in on someones hard work and build the project without planting a single forest?

Would the victory thresholds section in the CIV4ProjectInfo.xml definitions do the trick? Set a target score of xyz, and each time a fungus is cleared or a forest planted increase the score. Then at the threshold the project should be enabled.

Now I am confused: is this a C4:AC thread or not? I thought it wasn't.

At the very least, there's no reason it can't be.

missed the missing prefix on the thread title... 7am isn't my most observant hour... but as murielwasser points out no reason this couldn't go into c4ac...
