  • [C4:AC] SDK by stealth?

I was scanning the Civ4 directories to try and find a way to modify the UI to reproduce the following screenshot using Civ4 (I know it's a random pic off the web - my copy of SMAC is approx. 200 miles away at the moment):

On my travels through the directory structure, I found a ton of icons that seemingly had no use within Civ. For example, under '<CivDir>/Resource/Icons/Smilies/' I found the following:

    Smiley_Cool_32x32.tga

    Smiley_Normal_32x32.tga

    Smiley_Tongue_32x32.tga

    Smiley_Winking_32x32.tga
(I converted the pics to .png in the GIMP because Firefox can't view .tga files, and I'm pretty sure IE can't)

As well as the smileys, I found a load of icons such as:
(may not appear as a pic, because it has an '&' in it)

    scanners & cameras_32x32.tga and folder printers_32x32.tga (found in '<CivDir>/Resource/Icons/System')

There is also an icons folder called 'GFC' which relates to the Scaleform GFC SDK which is the tools Firaxis used to build the UI for Civ4. The icons in this folder look like they belong with said tools, which would no doubt appear (in some form) in the Civ4 SDK. Are Firaxis trying to sneak the SDK to us little by little through the patches?

Also I found one other file that may be extremely useful for porting SMAC graphics to Civ4:

    GameFont.tga, found in '<CivDir>/Resource/Civ4'

PS: Almost all the icons can be found in 32x32 flavour or 16x16 flavour - although the GIMP says the smileys are 42x42

      Thanks Gavin...

      Slight update:
The file 'GameFonts.tga' can also be found in '<CivDir>\Assets\res\Fonts'
I believe this version would be more relevant to this mod as it seems to be the version actually used when the game is running.

Also, in '<CivDir>\Assets\res\Cursors' all the in-game cursors are avilable as standard Windoze compatible animated cursors (my desktop uses them for all it's cursors)

Finally, in '<CivDir>\Assets\res' is the Civ4 splash screen - the one with the progress bar as the game counts through loading the XML/Graphics/Python etc.

If you can make custom versions just upload them into an assets folder under your mod name and presto you got custom icons!
