  • [C4:AC] Doctrine: Initiative

My initial plan was just to coordinate the volunteer activity hoping that little tasks taken out of enthusiasm would fit in a larger puzle. With the dwindling activity now I decide to take a more active role. In this mind I hope to place several goals for the team members to fulfill until the reasonable amount of activity is reached again.

I know that we haven't got SDK yet but it is on the way and some things can and should be tried to be done. We may not be able to much right now, but we can lay the basics. A working atmosphere should be maintained. Unresolved legal status should also not delay us. If we recieve positive news good, if no then we'll stop but until we recieve, we should continue.

I would like to see some completed tasks, no matter how trivial it is. I hope you are with me. As Senethro says, "Its nearly the end of february, lets get on with it."

There are several tasks that I place before you.

    Goal #1: factions

Darsnan's idea is admirable. The first goal is therefore to assemble xml data for all original 7 SMAC factions and optionally 5 human SMAX factions, if only the base names and desriptions. No work on graphics for the bases or the portraits is needed yet at this point. I would ask Darsnan to provide us with his files.

    Goal #2: tech tree

Rubin worked on his custom tech tree. I would like to ask Rubin to provide us with his files so that we can test it and/or assist him with completion. If we accomplish this, we have completed the first step towards our destination.

    Goal #3: naming conventions

In anticipation of larger modding efforts this discussion should be revived. I would like to see agreement on naming conventions for most of the tags in near future. Once the SDK is ready, we should not lose time on this but already be ready.

    Regarding the technology tree files:

As I stated several times, completing the technology tree with text, sound and images is a fairly simple and easy task.

I think the file structure of Civilization IV, however, makes it pointless currently (pre-SDK) to to do any further work on the technology tree. I've already been discussing this in some of the previous threads.

I can't say I've enjoyed our enforced hiatus either, however, it really does look like we'll have an SDK very shortly.

One thing I'm interested in (and am hoping Geomodder knows) is what they've been doing in the Civ4 creation forum regarding importing models/graphics into Civ4?

Edit: Rubin, PM coming in shortly.

I've been watching the forums eagerly for our promised SDK, and i'm still waiting....

It went from "January" to "Late January/Early February" to god knows when.

Regardless, When it comes out, I'll be ready.

Well, yesterday the first unit with the prereleased graphic tools was announced. Check this thread over on CivFanatics. Appearantly the creator managed to even link animation files (existing ones I presume) to his model.
