  • faction.txt graphic problem

I've been creating a new set of factions for SMAniaC. However there seem to be some problems in the startup screen for the game when selecting what factions will play.

For the Ghost and Genesis factions the text in the files under #Datalinks2 shows up... This doesn't happen for the other factions and I can't really see what could be causing it with the Genesis & Ghosts but not with the rest.

Also the quote of Genesis is messed up with those ^s. Anybody knows what's causing all this?

(Hmm, they seem to have been saved in grayscale somehow - I thought I had turned it off prior to saving )

What did you use to edit them? Perhaps newlines aren't being parsed properly? Try running dos2unix or unix2dos over them.

      Backup first, obviously.

        Notepad.

        That's Chinese for me.
However I think I found out what you mean. On my own computer there seems nothing weird with the files. However when I look at them here on the computer at my faculty's network node, there are these signs all over the textfile.

I guess that's what you mean by not being parsed properly?

I removed these signs here now. I'll go check if the files work right now.

Explanation: DOS/Windows uses a slightly different marker for end-of-line to UNIX, Linux etc. Possibly SMAC is expecting only one of those newline types and so it doesn't handle the other properly.

dos2unix and unix2dos are programs to convert text files from one type on end-of-line to the other.

            Thanks for the explanation.

Problem solved btw. Though a couple others appeared in the meanwhile... I hate modifying graphics. (Threads to follow )
