  • C4:AC How is everyone? Also, where is our SDK?

Now that christmas is over, its more a case of sitting on our hands rather than being busy with other stuff. Anyone any idea when the SDK is coming out? I remember the earliest dates were Dec but that slipped to Jan. Any further info?

Feel free to take this thread wildly off topic. I'll start. Whats your favorite bit of Civ4? For me, it was the music.

Looks like everyone is waiting for the clearance in the legal issues and/or SDK, apart from the usual time constraints of course.

I haven't yet got to playing cIV but perhaps the favuourite for me will be all the awe and drooling around it while it was not yet released..

You should come around to a game fast, bT. How else are you going to defend the Greek Choice for the DG?

But On Topic: haven't heard any rumour on a release of the SDK either.

I think this is the main item that I am waiting on, as I would rather not invest a significant amount of time only to be told later to "cease and desist".

Personally speaking, I don't plan to buy the SDK until after I hear back concerning the legal issue thing. The only reason I bought cIV was to mod it into SMAC. I haven't even fired up cIV for over a month now - just not that enamoured with the base game.

"Buy" the SDK? Was my impression that it would be a free download completely wishful thinking?

And what is the legal status? Last I remember we'd received advice to call the mod AC (pronounced ack, not an acronym of anything).

Edit: Just remembered we have a stickied legal thread. Thx Dan for update.

I haven't heard or seen anything to this or any other effect regarding how the SDK will be offered. Did you see something to the effect that it would be a free download, like a patch?

I'm out of this mod for some months, contrary to my initial hopes.

When Civ4 came out I had a look at the box and it said on the back a SDK was included with the game. So if they wouldn't make it available for free, they wouldn't be selling what they promised. That is illegal AFAIK...

I think I have a good understanding how python works, but modding it to AC will become a lot easier with the SDK, so I don't want to invest a lot of time in temporary half-working complex workarounds now.

AFAIK, the SDK will be released for free, but only when Firaxis comes around to it.

I was looking in a shop, and the base of the cIV box says early 2006.

Your right - my bad. My box also says that the SDK will be available for download in early 2006.

                            Good that it's so soon.

                            But what about the legals?
