  • Secret project movies

I've spent last few days exploring various files in SMAC(X) folders. The list of movie files is as following:

    AI defeated movies:
    angels.wve
    believe.wve
    caretake.wve
    cyborg.wve
    drone.wve
    fungboy.wve
    gaians.wve
    hive.wve
    usurper.wve
    univ.wve
    spartans.wve
    morgan.wve

    Player defeated movies:
    losealien.wve
    loseman.wve
    losewoman.wve

    Secret projects movies:
    asceticVirtues.wve
    bulkMatter.wve
    citizensDefense.wve
    clinical_Immortality.wve
    cloningVats.wve
    commandNexus.wve
    cyborgFactory.wve
    dreamTwister.wve
    empathGuild.wve
    humanGenome.wve
    hunterSeeker.wve
    livingRefinery.wve
    longevityVaccine.wve
    maritimeControl.wve
    merchantExchange.wve
    nanofactory.wve
    networkBackbone.wve
    neuralAmplifier.wve
    selfAwareColony.wve
    singularityInductor.wve
    smacxcloudbase.wve
    smacxgrid.wve
    smacxmanifold.wve
    smacxnethack.wve
    spaceElevator.wve
    supercollider.wve
    telepathicMatrix.wve
    theoryOfEverything.wve
    universalTranslator.wve
    virtualWorld.wve
    voiceOfPlanet.wve
    weatherParadigm.wve
    xenoempathyDome.wve

    Other movies:
theyTranscend.wve - never seen this before, movie that should occur when you lost the transcend race
    transcend.wve -the transcend win movie
logo.wve -alternate animated firaxis logo, never seen it before
open.wve -a normal sized smacx intro mvoie
    opening.wve -smac intro movie
openingx.wve -double sized smacx intro mvoie
    close_ct.wve -caretaker alien win
    close_us.wve -usurper alien movie

I've also tried to edit secret projects movies - trying to rip out sound files from them or replace it with other sound files. Namely, I tried to alter opening.wve movie so that it has openingm.mp3 instead openingf.mp3 naration.

I've tried using the wing commander movie player to rip out to avi files first, however I can't seem to do that. It doesn't recognize wve files as playable, and when I alter the wve extension to tre it frecognizes it but fails to load it. I assume that if I could convert it to avi files I could rip out the sound from movie files. Question is, could altered avi files be converted back to wve extension?

mp3s of the movie sound would be neat.

Something I've been curious about. I have heard that the SMAC movies aren't playable. However, I've been able to view the movies that came in my mac installation.

How about a compatibility test? I have uploaded the theyTranscend movie. Can you see if it will run for you?

Well I'm not very competent with computers but I quickly installed Divx and tried to run the file you posted with it (after unzipping it of course). This did not work.

Perhaps someone with more technical know how can figure it out.

Hope that helped, best of luck on the Civ4Smac project!

This is unrelated to C4:AC project, but related to Apolyton Pack project.

Wgabrie, this is a .wve file. I can view it with dos player that comes with the game, but it is useless for editing or ripping out sounds. I believe that Mac/Linux has .mpg files.

I'm useless at coding etc. but I can play the files with VLC Media Player.

I've tried the VLC player, but although it seems to read the file, it doesn't produce either audio or video output.

What formats let you rip audio/video? Or is it the player that does this?

I found this player http://xinehq.de/index.php/features but it requires a Linux or Unix system to run. It plays Electronic Arts. wve files.

This app also plays EA .wve files, but it also requires Linux/Unix. http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net/index.php

And there seem to be two file types named .wve. The older video files and the newer audio files used in Psion Series 3a/3c/3mx handheld computers.

Well .wve format is impossible to be constructively used. I would first have to convert it to something else, but I cannot follow the footsteps of Blake and Rubin. Wing Commander movie player fails to rip it to avi every time.
