  • graphic error in creating a faction

I just spent the past two days creating a faction complete with detailed buildings, icons, and avatar...

Now when I load it up, the Character appears as a giant mess of colorful static, and the same happens for all the icons, and buildings.

I saved it as a .pcx and it doesn't over exceed the file sizes of the other factions...

any idea of where I went wrong?

Whatever program you used to save it didn't preserve the palette of the original .pcx file. You need to extract a standard .pcx file's palette and force your image editor to use it to save your new .pcx. I'm not sure which image editors support this, but GIMP does.

I used Photoshop... I figured it would have done that.. but apparently not.

Normally, the order of colors in a palette isn't important, but SMAC ignores the palette entirely, mapping the indices in the .pcx file to its own palette. I would expect behavior like this to be common for 256 color games -- if you accomodate different palettes in different files, you end up with more than 256 colors.
