  • Modern Earth Alpha.txt

This alpha.txt mod has an entirely new tech tree. Native life has been renamed to "insurgents." (Although I can't figure out how to edit the mind worm icons. If anyone could help me out with this, that would be awesome.) Overall, playing with this alpha.txt requires totally new strategies, and I've found it to be significantly more challenging than the regular version. The tech tree covers roughly from 1800 to 2200. I hope to make a European WW2 scenario, and maybe a cold war one too, sometime in the near future.

Edit: I've made some changes to the modern earth alpha file. I've also minutely tweaked my earth map, and I've supplied other text files to further instill the modern earth atmosphere.

The cold war scenario is also coming along. I have all of the faction's .txt files done, and I'm just starting to place all of the cities.

Civ IV is digital crack. If you are a college student in the middle of the semester, don't touch it with a 10-foot pole. I'm serious.

The default worm icon is chosen from the Units.PCX file. Unfortunately if you change the alpha.txt line governing the mindworms to automatically choose an icon the game is hardcoded such that it gives you a new very unique unit which kinda looks like a shaagg carpet, which is probably not what you want.
About your only other option is to choose another icon from the Units.PCX file, with the Battle Ogre being the best choice. FYI.

      Ah thanks.

Well, I checked, and I guess since I'm not using SMAX, I don't have the battle ogre icon. Although there is that wierd looking probe team icon. How would I be able to use that? And could I somehow use that for isles of the deeps and locusts too?

Actually you should still be able to use the Battle Ogre icon. I just changed the Alien Artifact icon in the alpha.txt file to the following:

Alien Artifact, Infantry, Artifact, Scout, 12,10, 0, Disable, 6, 000000000000000000000000

I then opened up SMAC and entered the datalinks: the alien artifact now has the appearance of a Battle Ogre. FYI and hope this helps.

I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.
