  • Star Wars Mod!

    As promised...
    http://www.geocities.com/jasonian_22/StarWarsMod.htm

(Ignore the pathetic page design. I made it in about a minute!)

This first zip contains all the graphics and text files for the seven Star Wars factions (Empire, Rebels, Naboo, Trade Federation, Jedi, Republic, Bounty Hunters) plus the updated alphax.txt file.

    Size: about 1.20 megs

The second zip contains lots of those small "pop up" window graphics, like the "city founded", "probe team captured", etc, along with a few monument changes and even some new farm graphics! Wow!

    Size: about 1.00 megs

I'm not too happy with the faction abilities, as these factions were designed for a galaxy-wide campaign in space (never got done ) instead of a planet-wide campaign on the ground. Still, they work and they're fun.

Enjoy, and if you have suggestions, comment here!

        Gahhh!!

There's no troubleshooting documents, because if I found a bug, I tried to smite it instead of telling people how to fix it themselves. Apparently one got by...

This one sounds vaguely familiar though. Hmm....

Have you played Morgan recently? And did you download both zips before the crash?

Great work! Can't wait to fire it up. As for installation can you leave the lot in a folder and load it as a scenario? I've read in the facedit text file that a scenario loads all files in its own folder first.

One thing I have noticed which may cause problems is that the text file hase mixed case letters. I would change these to either all upper or lower case to avoid any file mismatches.
            eg;
            Empire.txt
            empire.pcx
            empire2.pcx
            empire3.pcx

            Should be;
            EMPIRE.txt
            EMPIRE.pcx
            EMPIRE2.pcx
            EMPIRE3.pcx

I'm marginally certain that case in file names wont' mess things up, but feel free to fix them. Who knows?

Installation is easy. Dump the files in the SMAC folder and it will autmomatically override everything it needs to. As for that whole "files in the scenario directory" thing, in my experience, that's a blatent lie!

This bug happened to me a while back (I got stuck on Aki Zeta, who is a bit less disturbing to see pop up), but I don't remember what I did to fix it. I DID fix it though, so it's only a matter of time before one of us stubles on the answer.

In the meantime, well... look at my city graphics or something. I'm exceptionally proud of the Naboo, Republic, and Bounty Hunter cities, as well as the Bounty Hunter and Rebel symbols!

                  Hi,
I downloaded your Star Wars MOD, and I want to say that the graphics look great. I did find a few bugs though. I first had the same problem with the faction selection screen as stated by you in an earier post.In my case I saw Yang's ugly face. I found why this was occuring. In the CUSTOMFACTIONS selection of alphax.txt, you have the syntax wrong. There is only one entry of the faction name, instead of two.

For example, the current form is:

                  #CUSTOMFACTIONS
                  CYBORG
                  PIRATES
                  DRONE
                  ANGELS
                  FUNGBOY
                  CARETAKE
                  USURPER

It needs to be changed to:

                  #CUSTOMFACTIONS
                  CYBORG, CYBORG
                  PIRATES, PIRATES
                  DRONE, DRONE
                  ANGELS, ANGELS
                  FUNGBOY, FUNGBOY
                  CARETAKE, CARETAKE
                  USURPER, USURPER

The last entry of CALAMARI should be deleted as there was no faction text or graphics of that name in the mod.

The included factions did not have a .FLC file. I do not know what these files are for, but each of the standard factions have one. I copied and renamed the default.FLC file to match the Star Wars faction names
(i.e. jedi.FLC ). These two changes corrected the faction display problem.

Only other bugs I've found so far are cosmetic. The faction datelinks info have the wrong starting technology listed for each faction. For example, the Galactic Empire starts with Galactic Ethics not Industrial Base.

                  ~Bill~

You've solved the bug! Horray! I'll be sure to put you in the credits or something if/when I fix it up more.

CALAMARI is one of the 7 new factions I'm working on. It's a pirate-esque sea faction, with high expantionist and efficiency. It's supposed to totally choke up the waterways. Fun.

As for the other cosmetic problems... well, I'm lazy, and this mod is quite big. Thanks for finding some of them for me.

If there's enough support, (and I have enough free time! HA!) I may finish the other 7 factions and release a SWX mod. Don't count on it though.

Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying it!

The .FLC files are animation files. They're the "black & white" slideshow you see at the bottom of the screen when you contact a faction leader. It's supposed to show you their background/origin etc.. They can be viewed and edited with most animation/graphics programs such as Jasc Animation Shop (Shareware download).

Hmmmm... ok, I have no idea what could cause that. Try the fixes given in this thread, and if that doesn't work... well... I have no idea what you should do if that doesn't work.

Hi, I've posted a link to the mod on my site, excellent work Jasonian. I did have some trouble though getting the custom techs to work, so I've also posted a 'fix" download that uses the original SMAC-X techs and fixed a few things in the faction files, hope thats cool with you Jas. Basically don't give up on the mod - its great fun!
