Anything I should be aware of?

I am mainly a civ II player, but I have Smac too. I thought I might pay a visit to this forum too.
My first question would be: Are there annything I should be aware of (as in PC-MAC compability problems, in civ 2 some text files needs to be edited to prevent mods from crashing your comp).

Download the patches. Really. They fix a lot of bugs and help balance out some quirky game issues.

However, even without the patches, the game is quite playable and loads of fun. There's nothing really special you need to do to enjoy it, short of picking a favorite faction.

Banned on Black Saturday in the name of those who went before him.

Realizes that no one probably remembers that event.
