    Hello!

    I'm a first-time poster here, so I don't know
    much about etiquette. I have designed a new
    set of seven factions for use in SMAC. I'll
    start with the two I designed first: Freewheelers and Talents.


    The Freedom Alliance (Freewheelers)

    Leader: Martina Winter
    Background: Federal Republic of Germany,
    Unity-Astrogation Team Member
    Aims: Freedom of body and mind
    Tech: Doctrine: Mobility

    +1 Research (Free-minded)
    +1 Support (Explorers)
    -1 Efficiency (Individualists)
    -1 Morale (Noncombatant)
    Free Recreation Commons at every base:
    Happiness through liberty
    Free Deep Radar in every prototype after discovery of AMA: Explorers

    Agenda: Wealth
    Value: Industry
    Aversion: Police State
    Agression: Pacifist
    Aims: Explore, Discover

    The Union of Talents (Talents)
    Leader: Cristina Sanchez
    Background: Iberian Union, Unity-Cryostasis-Officer
    Aims: Supporting an elite
    Tech: Biogenetics, Applied Physics

    +2 Efficiency: (Efficient Talent society)
    +1 Planet: (Ecologically more sensitive than workers or drones)
    Free Paradise Garden at every base after the discovery of sentient econometrics: Talentseekers
    -2 Support: (Very suspicious of military)

    Agenda: Knowledge
    Value: Efficiency
    Aversion: Planned
    Agression: Erratic
    Priorities: Discover, Build

    Slightly powerful, but nothing that bad.

    I'd give the Union of Talents +1 TALENT instead of the Paradise Garden thing. This gives them 1 extra talent at each base. It's a free HGP! Of course, it's only 1 as compared to two later on, but that's the price you pay.

      Adding .. with the discovery of sentient econ makes the paradise garden next to worthless. Both factions seem fairly balanced as hybrids but neither one seems to have much of a focus, both seem to be hybrids AKA Lal or Deidre. Add more conquer and builder factions if you are making 7.

      The -2 support is KILLER!!!! Do not give a faction -2 support to start out that is vicious. Their expanding will be very slow and they CAN'T use demo.. -4 support is like 2 minerals per unit or so. -1 slows the Morganites down as is. Add a small police penalty or something like that.

      I agree that extra talents would seem to make more sense than a paradise garden.

        Hi!
        Your new factions sound interesting. 1 general question for you or anyone else who can help. How do you use factions you download. When I used facedit with the borg faction the bases names etc changed but things like the pic of the borg and the quote remained that of the default (the hive). Do you need to move the pcx files/txt files to the same directory as facedit? (Currently the downloaded files are in a separate directory).
        Thanks and I would love to get a copy of your factions (Please tell me how to use them)

          I think I'd like to see five other factions. Also, flesh them out a bit (you know, sentences for computer, pics and so on) and send them to me: I would most certainly like to play them!
