  • How do you create custom maps?

Stupid newbie question, so forgive me... But how do you create a custom built map. Do you have to get a pre-drawn map from USGS or other source first? Or, is there an editor that I have overlooked(not found)?

    Thanks for not flaming me...

Custom map? As in custom graphics? Basically cannot happen. Just take a map, print it out then recreate it in the editor...
If you look around and think everyone else is an *******, you're the *******.

No, I think what Matrix means is to create a scenario map. Press Ctrl-K, that puts you in the scenario editor. Go to Edit Map and go to it, you've just created a scenario. If you want to then have the scenario map, or any other game map saved, in order to play it in a normal, non-scenario game, just do Ctrl-K, Edit Map, Save Map, and Voila! You can then start any game using this custom map, when SMAC(X) prompts Load Map before you start a game. Rudimentary details on the scenario editor interface are available in the back of the SMAC guidebook that comes with the game.

So yes, it is very possible to create custom maps.
