draw buffer puzzle

Hi all,
So I've got the common draw buffer error shutting down my alpha and xfire programs,
Also read that there's a same issue with civ 3 but that works fine. Any ideas?
Have v4 and v2 update for both.
Running on asus eee pc with external everything.

Tried restarts etc, .ini modifications, about 60 fonts on system, no orcaware program and no font issue, and yeah civ 3 runs perfect.

If you haven't already done so, add the line

DirectDraw=0

to the [Alpha Centauri] section of your Alpha Centauri.ini file.
