  • Another base spacing/layout question

I sort of stumbled on this idea, of which you'll see below.

The idea is that the center base gets all the surrounding 8 squares to itself, and the outside bases (N, S, W, E) get the "outside" squares to harvest. I usually like to make sure that at least two rocky+mine+road+crawler squares are allocated per base, PLUS a borehole.

Am I being "smart" by using this strategy? I can't match a tighter ICS layout, though.

    General city layout. Sort of.

(Small map, Talent, Spartans. Can't be bothered to play for 3 days straight on one map, and don't really care for any other faction except the Spartans. Don't care much for SMACX either....Game end, I conquered all the factions except the Morgans which were wiped out by the Hive. My SPs were the Command Nexus, WP, Cyborg Factory (helps get elite units everywhere) and something else.)

Sparta Command and Assassin's Redoubt are the "nexus" of the base network. Below is the view of Sparta Command:

And below is one of the surrounding bases to Sparta Command:

Good policy? It's sort of doable on Small, but is probably better on larger maps. Thoughts? I mostly do it because I don't like caring for size 14 drone problems. More size 7s or fewer size 14s -- I'll take the 7s.

Select the link, copy it, then paste it in the browser URL field. (If that doesn't work, then add http:/ / before it.)

Can't post full links yet, so that's all I can do.

Ah. I tried something like that, but it wasn't working earlier.

I'm the wrong guy to ask about this one; I'm a builder, and this isn't how I space my bases at all. Different strokes, and all that.

Yeah, I'd assume for builders, it's not a good strategy, unless you were in a Huge map and had a central core of ICS cities, then used this arrangement to thwart invaders.

I'm a warmonger, because war solves all questions about diplomacy, economy, territory rights, who owns what SP, etc. The game goes a little faster that way I last played the Morgan the way Morgan was meant to be played, except I had to do it Citizen difficulty :P as I couldn't play it on any other difficulty because inquisitive Hive and all that looking to spill my plans. (That and any sense of attacking is useless until you get the SP that grants you +2 Police)

Buster's Daddy likes to play Spartans agressively, though I think he spaces his bases out - or used to; neither of my siblings will play much these days, 'cause they find AC to be crack...

I use this layout sometimes, when I decide to play a game in which I intend to use Specialists a lot. My prefered layout is a tesselated "grid" where each base's tiles interlock but don't overlap. It's a tough way to do it, but I have fun with it.
I am on a mission to see how much coffee it takes to actually achieve time travel.

I practically never use Specialists except when Drones exhibit tendencies that require me delegate a Doctor or Empath to deal with the problem.

In the past, as soon as I got Intellectual Integrity, I would build Police Plasma Sentinels (1-3-1 Police), which after Silksteel Armour and Neural Grafting (C4) I would upgrade to 1-4-1*2 Police Trance units, then wait until Probability grade armour. Then I'd create 1-6-1*2 Police Clean units, complimented with 1-6-1*2 AAA ECM units.

Now I just use 1-1-1 Police, and will most likely just stick the latest model of infantry attack unit (i.e. 8-3-1 Chaos Squads) along with my favorite unit, SAM Chaos Rovers.

                I dunno. More input?
