  • Question about AI strange behavior

Hello, I would like to know if someone could clarify me a strange behavior i've been seeing from the AI.
In the game I'm playing anytime I try to attack an enemy base, they automatically stop the fight, with the result being their units being unharmed while mine lose a slight bit of health. This only started happening since 2250 or so.
    Any clues?

Odd. The only way I know of for a unit to do that is for a multi-move one to disengage - they move away. Is that what you're talking about?

I'm not sure, however even 1move only units stop the fight too. Any unit on enemy buildings do it, regardless also of which type of unit I use to attack. Mostly I attack with destros but have also done it with copters and Planes with the same outcome. However in probe vs Probe fight this doesn't happen, they fight till death.

Could you post a save of the situation ?

Your link doesn't work - go to advanced reply, manage attachments and upload the save. Since you are new you might have to get a certain number of posts before you are allowed to use that, but we have a nice Off topic section here http://apolyton.net/forumdisplay.php/147-Off-Topic where you can gain some credit.

Don't worry about that you may be harrased, insulted and otherwise offended - in a couple of years you'll be accepted

If you don't mind to try again I just tested the link and it does work, you just have to erase the spaces before ":" "9" "/" "Z" "-o" "U" "-2" ".S"

I'll see if I get my post count up nevertheless.

Just try to attack any of Lady Deidre's bases for example, till not long ago I was able to always fight to the death when attacking an enemy base, either my unit was destroyed or the defendant's unit was. Now every time I attack anyone they stop fight in midway. As I said, it doesn't seem to affect Probe vs probe combat though, and today I found that at least naval combat doesn't suffer it as long as both units aren't in a base.

I could only find a Missile cruiser that could attack and that is attacking a land unit in a land colony - that doesn't end in a "fight to death", that only goes for sea colonies.

A couple of suggestions - turn on Auto-prune obsolete units - that makes unit management easier. Build condensers (I can see that you are building one, but you have had that opportunity since Weather paradigm) - they are great for nut production. Echelon mirrors are nice but not the way you build them. Drop formers are not the best investment. A couple of airplanes can be nice to have, but what you really want is choppers, they are the most powerful units in the game - period !

You have several projects ready for build - use some of your crawlers to finish them. Using crawlers is a good thing, but they can only collect one resource while a worker can get all - consider popcontrol facilities as a reasonable alternative.

Since you are new here, I assume that you aren't aware of the "clean min" concept. Shortly, it means that after you have had the first eco damage, then every tree farm, hybrid forest, centauri Preserve and Tempe of planet adds to the max number of mins that a base can produce without eco damage.

Hope that I haven't spoiled the fun of the game for you

                      Thanks for the reply.

I think I understand the idea of clean minerals, but I don't see the point in worrying about more minerals, I rather work on getting more energy sources instead and use money to rush buy whatever I need. Should I take it you think minerals are still relevant at that point in the game? If so, what do you use them for?

So, regarding the Echelon mirrors, could you elaborate a bit in how you would use them?

I'm not near the game for the moment, so your mineral question have to wait a bit. Though, you need mins to support your units unless you make them clean reactor units.

Echelon mirrors gives a bonus in the tiles surrounding them, though NOT if there is a echelon mirror. IIRC there must be solar collectors to get the bonus, so the best layout is something like this:

                        SSSSSS
                        SESSES
                        SSSSSS
