Best ways to 'fix' SMAC v4?

Because I can't stand the way they way they screwed the graphics up in SMAC v5, I'm sticking to SMAC v4 and so unfortunately won't be able to use kyrub's patch.

So, what are the best ways to 'fix' (or at least improve the worst problems with) the AI in SMAC v4?

And yes, that map alone is enough to stop me from switching to v5, I don't care what else they fixed.

It's not so bad, at least you can still distinguish the colors, which I think is more important. I even thought the vanilla version (with no SMAX) was also like that. It's a bit wierd, but still functional.

jez999, I am afraid I won't spend a week or more on fixing an old version because of details, that are not "fonctionnal" problems. I understand your dislike of either the music or the flawed display (and I partially share both of them), but the patch focuses on what is broken from the fonctionnal point of view.
